What is Meladerm?

Meladerm is a pigment correction cream by the skin care brand Civant. Founded in 1999, it has always been Civant’s mission to develop an effective stand alone product for hyperpigmentation without the use of hydroquinone. Civant created Meladerm cream with natural brightening ingredients for the treatment of hyperpigmentation, discolorations, acne marks, birthmarks, old scars, melasma, chloasma, uneven skin tone, age spots, freckles, underarms, and more. In this review, we’ll discuss the key Meladerm ingredients, how to use Meladerm cream, Meladerm reviews from real customers, and more.

What are the key Meladerm ingredients?

Meladerm includes over 10 ingredients that can help brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Below we’ll discuss each of these ingredients in detail so you’ll know exactly how they can benefit your skin.

Niacinamide
Niacinamide, the amide form of vitamin B3, is not just a brightening ingredient, but a true multi-tasker that provides numerous benefits to the skin. For instance, niacinamide is well known as a potent antioxidant. Antioxidants help the skin combat free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. In addition, studies have shown that niacinamide can repair the skin barrier and improve skin moisture, as well as reduce inflammation, blotchiness, hyperpigmentation, acne, and wrinkling.

White Mulberry Root Extract
White mulberry is a species of flowering plant that has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine. Extracts from the roots of the white mulberry plant provide skin-brightening effects, and also work synergistically with ingredients like licorice root extract and kojic acid.

Licorice Root Extract
Licorice root extract is well known for its anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties. But licorice can also provide a considerable skin brightening effect thanks to a component called glabridin.

Skullcap Root Extract
Skullcap root extract contains several potent antioxidants, and is also a tyrosinase inhibitor. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme involved in the synthesis of melanin, the pigment that gives skin color and also contributes to the formation of undesirable dark spots. By inhibiting tyrosinase, skullcap root extract may be able to reduce abnormal pigmentation associated with aging and exposure to UV light.

Bearberry Leaf Extract
Bearberry leaf extract is another ingredient that functions as a tyrosinase inhibitor, and therefore can help brighten the skin and fade dark spots.

Kojic Acid
Kojic acid is extracted from various species of mushrooms and is also a byproduct in the fermentation process of rice. It helps to brighten the skin and fade dark spots by inhibiting tyrosinase.

Alpha Arbutin
Another tyrosinase inhibitor in Meladerm cream is alpha arbutin. Alpha arbutin has been extensively studied and is proven to work effectively on all skin types.

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is a stable derivative of vitamin C that is converted to ascorbic acid, the active form of vitamin C, after being absorbed into the skin. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can help protect the skin against free radicals, stimulate collagen production, fade dark spots, and improve uneven skin tone.

Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine (Sepiwhite)
Sepiwhite is a vectorized essential amino acid developed from phenylalanine, an amino acid involved in melanin synthesis. When combined with other ingredients like AHA and niacinamide, Sepiwhite becomes a powerful skin brightener suitable for all skin types and ethnicities.

Phenylethyl Resorcinol (SymWhite)
Phenylethyl resorcinol is a synthetic compound that is partially derived from natural lightening compounds found in Scotch pine bark. It exhibits very potent antioxidant activity and also helps with hyperpigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase.

GigaWhite
GigaWhite is actually a mixture of seven organic skin-brightening plant extracts. Studies have shown that GigaWhite can increase the luminescence of the skin while also reducing the color intensity of age spots.

How to use Meladerm

After washing and drying the skin, apply an even layer of Meladerm cream over the desired area twice daily. Massage thoroughly until cream is absorbed completely. The use of an additional broad spectrum sunblock of SPF 30 (or higher) is strongly recommended.

Where is Meladerm cream sold?

What is the Civant return policy?

The Civant return policy states, “If for any reason you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase, we will issue a full refund, less shipping, on returned products, used or unused, postmarked within 30 days of the initial delivery date and accompanied with a RMA number.”

Is Civant cruelty free?

Meladerm reviews

Meladerm reviews on the brand’s website are mostly 4 and 5 star ratings, with many customers sharing positive results after using Meladerm cream. There are many positive Meladerm reviews that confirm this product can help to fade all types of hyperpigmentation while improving the skin tone. However, many reviewers share that it does take some time for the product to start working.

On The Derm Review, one negative Meladerm review says, “I bought 2 bottles of Meladerm and have been using it according to directions for over 2 months. I have a dime sized solar lentigo on my left cheek, and I have seen absolutely no change whatsoever using Meladerm on it. Very disappointed.”
