These designer brand represents some of the most luxurious options in skincare as well as makeup and are often at the forefront of new and exciting beauty trends. So today, we’re going to be taking a look at one of these makeup & skincare hybrid ranges, known as the DreamSkin Advanced collection to see if these unique formulations are worth the premium price tag. So without further adieu, let’s get started!

What are the Best Skin Care Products of 2023?

About the Brand

Dior began as a luxury fashion house over a century ago, but they didn’t move into the world of beauty, makeup and skincare until the 1960’s. Over the years, however, they have created several cult-favorite products in both skincare as well as makeup. Their growing collection of products is available at a wide variety of retailers, including Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy’s, as well as on their website.

DreamSkin Advanced

The DreamSkin collection, which is actually part of the Capture Totale range from Dior, has recently been reformulated and redesigned to offer several new beneficial properties. The range consists of three products that include the Next Generation Iconic Perfect Skin Creator, the Perfect Skin Cushion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 and the 1 Minute Mask. These three can all be used together as part of your regular skincare routine to help create a luminous, youthful looking base for further makeup application.

Taking a look at the routine, the 1 Minute Mask is the first step towards achieving the look. This mask contains AHA’s or alpha hydroxy acids in order to gently exfoliate the skin. Since this mask is only on for a short while, the product exfoliates just enough to reveal a brighter, smoother complexion.

Next up is the Next Generation Iconic Perfect Skin Creator, which acts as both a primer and a moisturizer. This product helps with all aspects of aging including the appearance of wrinkles, pores, spots, redness and dullness, creating a smooth base for any makeup application that you choose to follow up with.
Finally, this routine wouldn’t be complete without an SPF. Because you’re using AHA’s in this routine, it’s absolutely essential that you apply sun protection. Your skin becomes more sensitive to sun damage after use of these chemical exfoliants, so the Dior Perfect Skin Cushion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 makes wearing a daily sunscreen as easy as possible. This product offers a light coverage, tinted sunscreen so there’s no need to worry about a white cast. There are currently four shades available, but since this product is more of a light coverage sunscreen, each shade blends easily with a variety of undertones. Overall, this collection offers a quick morning routine that will offer you excellent skincare benefits, while also offers some lightweight coverage.

Formula Focus

Focusing more closely on the formula behind each of these products, their full ingredients list remains a bit of a mystery. While Dior does release some information about their hero ingredients for each product, it’s almost impossible to track down their full ingredients list online.

With that said, we can tell you about the key ingredient for this range that is central to the entire formula. Longoza and opilia are two extracts in the Dreamskin formulations that are used primarily for their anti-aging benefits. Longoza is an rare red fruit that is said to have protecting and regenerative properties. Unfortunately, there is no data to support the usage of this ingredient is skincare or as a beneficial compound against anti-aging. Similarly, Opilia is another rare ingredient that is said to help to balance and even out the skin. But, like the Longonza, there is no data available currently to support these claims. This doesn’t mean that there are no benefits to be seen from these ingredients, simply that there has been no studies done to show evidence of these ingredients living up to the anti-aging claims.

Review Recap

You can find Dior makeup and skincare through a variety of retailers including Macy’s and Nordstrom. On Nordstrom’s website, the most well reviewed product is the Capture Totale DreamSkin Advanced Perfect Skin Creator, with 27 total reviews and a rating of 4.7 out of 5. Dior Hydra Life Glow Better Fresh Jelly Mask Review

Dior Hydra Life Glow Better Fresh Jelly Mask is water-rich gel texture scrub that should be applied to skin and rinsed off after 3 minutes. It is said to immediately revive the skin for instant freshness and promote smoothed, clear, and brighter skin. This scrub contains ground apricot seeds for scrubbing action and exfoliation. However, these seeds are often too harsh on the skin and can lead to irritation and skin damage. Dior Hydra Life Glow Better Fresh Jelly Mask also contains glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates the skin by targeting corneocytes (dead skin cells that make up the stratum corneum) in a process called corneocyte desquamation. By enhancing their breakdown and increasing the separation of skin cells, the rate of cell turnover is increased, leading to smoother, more radiant skin. There are also natural sources of AHAs included in this scrub, such as blueberry, sugar cane, and sugar maple.

Dior Hydra Life Glow Better Fresh Jelly Mask is also claimed to provide “a light peel thanks to the citrus fruit extracts”, which include orange fruit extract and lemon fruit extract. In reality, the light peel provided by this scrub is due to glycolic acid, whereas these citrus fruit extracts may actually cause more harm than good. Both orange and lemon fruit extract are known to be skin sensitizers. Lemon juice is highly acidic (pH of about 2), which can cause skin irritation. Furthermore, lemon can cause photosensitivity on exposure to sunlight, which is due to a volatile fragrance chemical in lemon known as limonene.

Dior Hydra Life Eye Cream Review

If you’re looking for a luxurious eye cream that offers a multi-purpose application process, you may want to check out the Dior Hydra Life Eye Cream. This cooling eye gel was designed to deeply hydrate the skin while simultaneously depuffing and soothing any signs of redness, shadows or irritation. The under eye area is home to the thinnest skin on your face, which also makes it the most sensitive to potential irritants as well as excess stress. Because of this, most skincare professionals recommend that you are extremely gentle when applying your eye cream, and avoid pulling, tugging or rubbing the skin. The applicator on the Dior Hydra Life Eye Cream takes the worry out of this equation completely by doing the blending for you. The metal applicator fits perfectly against the under eye area, and with gentle sweeping motions, blends the product into the skin without any stress. Since this application is made of metal, the product also delivers a cooling effect when applied. Alongside the benefits of the applicator and packing themselves, the formula is the real star of the show. The ingredients list behind this product features several botanical extracts from the Dior Hardens in Anjou. This includes Mallow, which is extracted using water extraction and enzymatic hydrolysis in order to maintain the ingredients efficacy and potency.

The Dior Capture Youth Age Delay Advanced Creme was developed as the final component of the customizable Capture Youth range. The Dior Capture Youth Collection was made up of 7 different serums, each of which have been designed to target a specific skin concern. The idea behind this collection was that each of these serums could be mixed with the Advanced Creme to create a targeted, customized moisturizer. Dior Capture Totale Multi-Perfection Creme Review

Dior Capture Totale Multi-Perfection Creme is a multi-purpose cream that was designed to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin while also helping to fight signs of aging including fine lines and loss of firmness. One of the most unique things about the Dior Multi-Perfection Creme is that it is available in three different formulations depending on your skin type. The light formula is a more lightweight, gel consistency that would be best suited for those with oily or combination skin types. Next is the universal formula, which can be used by all skin types or those with normal skin that isn't too oily or too dry. Lastly, the rich formula was designed to suit those with dry or extra dry skin types. Having all of these options allows users to find the option that suits their skin the most, without missing out on the nourishing and anti-aging active ingredients that this formula has to offer.

If you’re looking for an anti-aging eye product with a lightweight texture yet powerful ingredients list, you may want to check out the Dior Capture Youth Age-Delay Advanced Eye Treatment. Developed alongside the rest of the Capture Youth range, this eye cream was designed to act as a two in one product, depending on how you use it. Firstly, this product can act as your everyday eye cream. Additionally, this product can also be used as an intensive eye mask. At first I loved the idea the feel texture and how it looked on my skin but I noticed that it increased my pores and caused breakouts, I used the serums + cushion foundation. I loved it but I had to stop using it because I noted the pores & breakouts

I went to the Dior counter at Dillard’s about two years ago to try a foundation. The woman there used the dream skin and the capture totale foundation on my face . When I used up all of my dream skin , I tried to use other products , but had to go back to buying dream skin , there is nothing comparable to it! I just ordered the foundation after trying other, much less expensive ones which also couldn’t compare to the capture totale. I highly recommend both. Haven’t tried the mask yet , but I may .

Can someone tell me if they have stopped making the advanced and switched to a different formula? I have tried the sample and it seems to have more fragrance in it and irritation.

I bought Dreamskin and loved the way my skin looked with it on. Normally, my skin is free of pimples. However, Dreamskin my skin has caused n=my skin to break out extremely badly. The last–and only other–time that a product made my facial skin break out in the same way and in the same place–on and around my nose–was Sea Buckthorn, which I had read about and wanted to try.

What a mess it made of my face, and now Dreamskin has done the same. I assume that an ingredient common to the two is the problem. I am very disappointed, all the more so because the pimples will probably leave scars on my sensitive facial skin.

I would appreciate hearing from you and, if possible, learning more about the ingredients in Dreamskin. That knowledge would help me to avoid other products containing the offender. Thank you. Frann

I’ve used Dior skin care products. They’re awesome but a little pricey. For that reason I had to stop using them. Needless to say, my skin has suffered. If you can pony up they’re well worth the splurge and last a good while!
