Dior has been a heavy hitter in the fashion and beauty industry for over a century. These designer brand represents some of the most luxurious options in skincare as well as makeup and are often at the forefront of new and exciting beauty trends. And one of those trends that we’re seeing more and more brands coming out with is makeup with skincare-based ingredients Skincare helps to improve your complexion over time while makeup can help to highlight all of your best features on a daily basis. So today, we’re going to be taking a look at one of these makeup & skincare hybrid ranges, known as the DreamSkin Advanced collection to see if these unique formulations are worth the premium price tag. So without further adieu, let’s get started!
What are the Best Skin Care Products of 2023?
About the Brand
Dior began as a luxury fashion house over a century ago, but they didn’t move into the world of beauty, makeup and skincare until the 1960’s. Over the years, however, they have created several cult-favorite products in both skincare as well as makeup. Their growing collection of products is available at a wide variety of retailers, including Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy’s, as well as on their website.
DreamSkin Advanced
The DreamSkin collection, which is actually part of the Capture Totale range from Dior, has recently been reformulated and redesigned to offer several new beneficial properties. The range consists of three products that include the Next Generation Iconic Perfect Skin Creator, the Perfect Skin Cushion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 and the 1 Minute Mask. These three can all be used together as part of your regular skincare routine to help create a luminous, youthful looking base for further makeup application.
Taking a look at the routine, the 1 Minute Mask is the first step towards achieving the look. This mask contains AHA’s or alpha hydroxy acids in order to gently exfoliate the skin. Since this mask is only on for a short while, the product exfoliates just enough to reveal a brighter, smoother complexion.
Next up is the Next Generation Iconic Perfect Skin Creator, which acts as both a primer and a moisturizer. This product helps with all aspects of aging including the appearance of wrinkles, pores, spots, redness and dullness, creating a smooth base for any makeup application that you choose to follow up with.
Finally, this routine wouldn’t be complete without an SPF. Because you’re using AHA’s in this routine, it’s absolutely essential that you apply sun protection. Your skin becomes more sensitive to sun damage after use of these chemical exfoliants, so the Dior Perfect Skin Cushion Broad Spectrum SPF 50 makes wearing a daily sunscreen as easy as possible. This product offers a light coverage, tinted sunscreen so there’s no need to worry about a white cast. There are currently four shades available, but since this product is more of a light coverage sunscreen, each shade blends easily with a variety of undertones. Overall, this collection offers a quick morning routine that will offer you excellent skincare benefits, while also offers some lightweight coverage.
Formula Focus
Focusing more closely on the formula behind each of these products, their full ingredients list remains a bit of a mystery. While Dior does release some information about their hero ingredients for each product, it’s almost impossible to track down their full ingredients list online.
With that said, we can tell you about the key ingredient for this range that is central to the entire formula. Longoza and opilia are two extracts in the Dreamskin formulations that are used primarily for their anti-aging benefits. Longoza is an rare red fruit that is said to have protecting and regenerative properties. Unfortunately, there is no data to support the usage of this ingredient is skincare or as a beneficial compound against anti-aging. Similarly, Opilia is another rare ingredient that is said to help to balance and even out the skin. But, like the Longonza, there is no data available currently to support these claims. This doesn’t mean that there are no benefits to be seen from these ingredients, simply that there has been no studies done to show evidence of these ingredients living up to the anti-aging claims.
Review Recap
You can find Dior makeup and skincare through a variety of retailers including Macy’s and Nordstrom. On Nordstrom’s website, the most well reviewed product is the Capture Totale DreamSkin Advanced Perfect Skin Creator, with 27 total reviews and a rating of 4.7 out of 5. Several users noticed a difference in their skin almost immediately, and since this product doubles as primer as well as a moisturizer, reviewers were impressed by how smoothing this product was. At first I loved the idea the feel texture and how it looked on my skin but I noticed that it increased my pores and caused breakouts, I used the serums + cushion foundation. I loved it but I had to stop using it because I noted the pores & breakouts
