Is Versed Skincare Worth The Money?

A common question about this brand is if the products are worth the cost.

In our opinion, Versed Skincare products deliver value for money, but take a look at other brands that don’t require you to sacrifice your precious money.

We recommend brands that are committed to developing clean yet effective products.

One brand is Carrot & Stick, a clean skincare brand that perfectly balances the gentle nurturing of plants with the powerful results of innovative science.

Carrot & Stick intro bundles deliver great value for money because you can bundle 3 full-size products worth up to $240 for $88.

What’s Inside Versed Skincare?

Versed Skincare focuses on using evidence-based ingredients in their products, such as Vitamin C, niacinamide, and retinol. These ingredients should all be part of your skincare routine. Here’s why:

Vitamin C
We’ve been hearing for years that Vitamin C is the best anti-aging ingredient. It’s a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin.

Vitamin C also helps fade dark spots, evens out skin tone, and increases radiance. As if that wasn’t enough, research suggests that when vitamin C is applied to the skin, it significantly reverses aging-related structural changes by influencing collagen and elastin synthesis.

It’s in the Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum.

But our favorite Vitamin C serum is Carrot & Stick The Defence Serum. It contains 3 distinct types of Vitamin C that work together to help fight free radical damage. We recommend using it every morning.

Niacinamide
Niacinamide is the amide form of vitamin B3 (niacin) that provides many benefits to the skin. For instance, a publication in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, states that niacinamide can repair the skin barrier and improve skin moisture, as well as reduce inflammation, blotchiness, hyperpigmentation, acne, and wrinkling.

You’ll find niacinamide in Versed Just Breathe Clarifying Serum.

We recommend Carrot & Stick The Repair Serum because it combines niacinamide with seven plant-based neuropeptides and soothing, brightening botanicals to promote a youthful glow.

Retinol
Retinol is the go-to anti-aging ingredient recommended by dermatologists and skin experts. It’s clinically proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve uneven skin tone, restore skin firmness, and shrink the appearance of enlarged pores.

The only downside? Retinol can often lead to side effects like skin dryness, peeling, and irritation.

It’s in Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Serum.

Use retinoids at night. We recommend this retinoid oil serum. It contains Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, an ingredient that provides similar benefits with less irritation.

Everything Else
The ingredients not included in the Versed skincare formulations are just as important as the key ingredients. The products are formulated to the highest standards in the world, European Union standards, banning over 1,300 toxins and questionable ingredients, to ensure the products are safe, non-toxic, and effective. Below is a list of ingredients that you won’t find in any Versed skincare product:

  • Artificial fragrance
  • Artificial colors
  • Parabens
  • Sulfates (SLS/SLES)
  • Phthalates
  • Silicones
  • Formaldehyde
  • Triclosan
  • Triclocarban
  • Petroleum
  • Mineral oil
  • Talc
  • NPE (nonylphenol ethoxylate)
  • BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole)
  • BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene)
  • Hydroquinone
  • Micro-beads
  • Chemical sunscreen

As you can see, Versed skincare was created as a cleaner alternative to traditional skin care solutions.

Plus, Versed skincare is environmentally friendly. The brand skips excess packaging like inserts and boxes for bigger items and uses recyclable packaging wherever possible (currently 92% recyclable and working on 100%).

The story behind Versed Skincare

Versed was developed with and inspired by the Who What Wear team — a Target-exclusive apparel and accessories line — and their community of over 16 million people. According to Katherine Power, CEO and founder of Versed, “After years of consumer research, we started to notice a gap in the beauty market. Shoppers were looking for a brand that was deeply rooted in research and was composed of clean products that not only work great, but are easy to use and make them feel good.” Skin care pros and industry professionals helped fine-tune and test-drive each item in the collection, and after 11 years of testing and researching the Versed Skincare line was born.

The top 5 Versed Skincare products

Versed Skincare offers a wide range of products, including cleansers, serums, treatments, masks and peels, moisturizers, and more. In order to make shopping for your ideal skin routine simple, Versed broke its product line up into four collections: dullness, dryness, aging skin, and problem skin. Below we’ll discuss the top 5 Versed Skincare products.

Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum
If you’re struggling with dull skin, you may want to consider Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum. One of the key ingredients in this serum is sodium ascorbyl phosphate, a stable water-soluble derivative of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps to brighten the complexion and prevent the development of dark spots on the skin by inhibiting tyrosinase, a key enzyme involved in the synthesis of melanin. Another brightening ingredient in this serum is niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3 that plays a vital role in cellular metabolism. Niacinamide also has the ability to repair the skin barrier and improve skin moisture, as well as reduce inflammation, blotchiness, hyperpigmentation, acne, and wrinkling. There are also two botanical extracts in this serum that can help to brighten the skin: Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract and Palmaria palmata (red algae) extract.

Versed Hydration Station Booster with HA
One of the most popular products from the dryness collection is the Versed Hydration Station Booster with HA, a lightweight serum booster that almost instantly absorbs into the skin. The formula contains two types of hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid (a glycosaminoglycan that’s able to hold 1000 times its weight in water) to hydrate both at the skin’s surface and the layers beneath it. Versed Hydration Station Booster with HA can be used alone as a serum or mixed in with your other serums, gels, and creams.

Versed Shortcut Overnight Facial Peel
The Shortcut Overnight Facial Peel, from the aging skin collection, is said to be “the shortcut to glowier skin”. This fragrance-free overnight peel contains two alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs): lactic and glycolic acid. AHAs exfoliate the skin by targeting corneocytes (dead skin cells that make up the stratum corneum) in a process called corneocyte desquamation. By enhancing their breakdown and increasing the separation of skin cells, the rate of cell turnover is increased, leading to smoother, more radiant skin. The Shortcut Overnight Facial Peel also contains retinyl palmitate (the ester of retinol and palmitic acid), which is well known to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Versed Find Clarity Purifying Mask
One key product from the collection for problem skin (aka clogged pores and mild acne) is the Find Clarity Purifying Mask. This pore-clearing mask is made with two types of clay and two types of charcoal to detoxify (not dry out) skin. The clays (kaolin and bentonite) mildly exfoliate skin to remove dead skin cells and absorb excess oil. The two types of charcoal in this mask are binchotan white charcoal and bamboo charcoal. When applied to the skin, charcoal works by trapping toxins and impurities in tiny air pockets. Rather than absorbing the toxins, however, charcoal works through adsorption (the chemical reaction where elements bind to a surface). Thus, charcoal helps to purify and detox the skin. Drawing these impurities out also helps pores appear smaller. Find Clarity Purifying Mask is smooth, creamy, and doesn’t completely dry out, which should leave your skin feeling hydrated, refreshed, and clean.

Versed Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen
This Versed sunscreen provides SPF 35 broad spectrum protection thanks to non-nano zinc oxide. Its oil-free formula with a creamy texture offers a natural finish that’s neither dewy or matte. In addition to blocking the sun’s UVA and UVB rays, it also helps block blue light, also known as HEV light, which is emitted from electronic devices, digital screens, (smartphone, laptop, TV, tablet, etc), fluorescent and LED light bulbs. Long-term exposure to concentrated sources of blue light energy can cause skin damage, including inflammation, uneven skin tone, and weakening of the skin’s surface. Finally, there are several antioxidants in this Versed sunscreen that help to protect against environmental pollutants.

If you aren’t sure what product is right for you, no need to worry; Versed offers an online quiz that directs users to products that address their specific skin concerns. Plus, the product packaging includes a set of prescriptive icons to help you pinpoint the right products for your skin.

Versed Skincare reviews

Versed Skincare reviews on the brand’s website are a mix of positive and negative. There are definitely some raving Versed Skincare reviews. For example, one reviewer shares her experience with using the Versed Skincare Hydration Station, “For months I used this serum by mixing it into my foundation. It helped hydrate my dry skin and added lightness to the texture of my foundation. Will definitely buy again once I run out.”

But there are also a handful of negative reviews for nearly every product. For example, there are quite a few negative reviews for the Versed sunscreen from customers who experienced bad reactions after using this product. Others comment that the Versed sunscreen is greasy and doesn’t layer well with other products.

Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum Review

Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum is a lightweight, fragrance-free serum formulated for dullness and aging skin concerns. In addition to brightening the skin, this serum is said to help firm, hydrate, and strengthen skin. One of the key ingredients in this serum is sodium ascorbyl phosphate, a stable water-soluble derivative of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps the skin combat free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Vitamin C also helps to prevent the development of dark spots on the skin by inhibiting tyrosinase, a key enzyme involved in the synthesis of melanin.

Another brightening ingredient in the Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum is niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3 that plays a vital role in cellular metabolism. This means that niacinamide provides skin cells with the energy needed to perform important processes, such as DNA repair and cell turnover. Lastly, Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum includes sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid. Sodium hyaluronate is an exceptional ingredient for adding hydration to the skin. It draws in moisture from the environment and can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Sodium hyaluronate may also help to plump the skin and temporarily reduce signs of aging.
