As a minimalist skincare brand, Typology is known for using a limited number of carefully selected ingredients and providing clear information about the composition of their products.

In this review, we’ll discuss the best selling Typology skincare products, including the key ingredients and the research that supports (or doesn’t support) their use in skincare.

We’ll also share some Typology reviews so that you can get an idea of what customers really think of these products.

What Are The Top 5 Best Typology Skincare Products?

Typology offers everything that you would need to create a complete skincare routine, including cleansers, toners, moisturizers, serums, masks, sunscreens, and more. Here’s a breakdown of the top 5 best Typology skincare products.

Typology L32 Radiance Serum with 11% Vitamin C

Including a vitamin C serum in your skincare routine is an excellent way to brighten dull, tired skin. This Typology vitamin C serum contains 11% bioavailable vitamin C vitamin C in the form of sodium ascorbyl phosphate.

Regardless of what form of vitamin C is used in the formula, all vitamin C derivatives are converted to ascorbic acid after being absorbed into the skin. Ascorbic acid is a potent antioxidant that protects skin from free radicals while also helping to fade dark spots and promote a brighter complexion.

The serum also includes albizia julibrissin (silk tree) bark extract, which works by counteracting the noxious effect of glycation — a process that damages collagen and elastin fibers. Silk bark extract can neutralize or detoxify the products as they are leading up to glycation, resulting in a reparative effect on tired skin, in particular a loss of radiance and suppleness. Recent clinical studies have found that users experience the benefits of this ingredient in as little as 7 days.

Typology A61 0.3% Retinol Serum

By now you probably know that a retinol serum can be a game changer for your skin. Retinol fights off wrinkles, boosts collagen, and even helps with pesky dark spots.

The Typology retinol serum combines 0.3% retinol with a base of castor seed oil, as well as soy oil. These oils help to soften the skin while also helping to keep skin moisturized. Plus, soy oil is known to activate cell renewal.

Typology L33 Eye Serum with 5% Caffeine + 5% Niacinamide

A caffeine eye serum can be used for an instant wake-up call to banish puffiness and reduce dark circles, giving your eyes a refreshed, well-rested vibe.

You already know that caffeine functions as a stimulant when you ingest it, and that’s exactly how it works when you apply it to your skin.

As a stimulant, caffeine causes vasoconstriction (constriction of the blood vessels) and stimulates blood flow when applied to the skin. This helps to tighten and firm the skin due to the removal of excess fluids and possible stimulation of the lymphatic drainage system.

It also aids in reducing the amount of blood that accumulates under the eyes (a major factor that contributes to dark circles).

This Typology eye serum also includes 5% niacinamide, which is one of our favorite skincare ingredients — we’ll give you all the details in the Key Ingredients section below.

Typology Tinted Serum with Vitamin C, Squalane & Aloe Vera

Vitamin C makes another appearance in this Typology Tinted Serum to help brighten the complexion while also combatting free radicals. Plus, squalane and aloe vera help to provide deep, long-lasting hydration.

The Typology Tinted Serum is currently available in six different shades and is said to offer light coverage and a natural, no-makeup finish.

Typology D41 9-Ingredient Face Moisturizer

You know by now that Typology products have minimalist ingredient lists, and this Daily Face Moisturizer is no exception. With just 9 ingredients, this fragrance-free moisturizer is lightweight, non-greasy yet deeply hydrating and nourishing.

The formula includes hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that’s known to be able to hold up to a thousand times its weight in water, making it a powerful skincare ingredient for instant hydration. By incorporating hyaluronic acid into your daily routine, you’ll rejuvenate your skin’s moisture, reduce fine lines, and achieve a visibly more supple, plump, and toned complexion over time.

The formula also includes organic coconut oil, a rich source of saturated fatty acids to soften and smooth the skin while preventing dehydration.

What Are The Key Ingredients in Typology Skincare Products?

Vitamin C, retinol, and niacinamide are a few of the key ingredients that make up the Typology skincare line. These ingredients should all be part of your skincare routine. Here’s why:

Vitamin C

We’ve been hearing for years that Vitamin C is the best anti-aging ingredient. It’s a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin.

Vitamin C also helps fade dark spots, evens out skin tone, and increases radiance. As if that wasn’t enough, research suggests that when vitamin C is applied to the skin, it significantly reverses aging-related structural changes by influencing collagen and elastin synthesis.

It’s in several of this brand’s products, including Typology L32 Radiance Serum with 11% Vitamin C and Typology Tinted Serum with Vitamin C, Squalane & Aloe Vera.

But our favorite Vitamin C serum is Carrot & Stick The Defence Serum. It contains 3 distinct types of Vitamin C that work together to help fight free radical damage. We recommend using it every morning.

Retinol

Retinol is the go-to anti-aging ingredient recommended by dermatologists and skin experts. It’s clinically proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve uneven skin tone, restore skin firmness, and shrink the appearance of enlarged pores.

It’s in Typology A61 0.3% Retinol Serum, as well as several additional products in the brand’s lineup.

The only downside? Retinol can often lead to side effects like skin dryness, peeling, and irritation.

One retinoid product we recommend is this retinoid oil serum because it contains Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, an ingredient that provides similar benefits with less irritation.

Niacinamide

We love that several of the Typology skincare products contain niacinamide, which is one of the best skincare ingredients, in our opinion. And there’s research to back it up.

For example, a publication in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, states that niacinamide can repair the skin barrier and improve skin moisture, as well as reduce inflammation, blotchiness, hyperpigmentation, acne, and wrinkling. Pretty impressive, right?

We recommend Carrot & Stick The Repair Serum because it combines niacinamide with seven plant-based neuropeptides and soothing, brightening botanicals to promote a youthful glow.

How Much Do Typology Skincare Products Cost?

Typology skincare products are pretty affordable, with the prices being comparable to brands like NIOD and Versed. For example, the Typology Vitamin C Serum costs $42.90 USD for 0.5 fl oz (15 mL), while the Typology Daily Moisturizer costs $36.80 USD for 1.69 fl oz (50 mL).

Where to Buy Typology Skincare Products?

Typology skincare products are sold exclusively on the brand’s website.

What is The Typology Return Policy?

The Typology return policy states, “Unfortunately returns are not possible. Being a B Corp company, our mission is to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible, we no longer accept returns from the US.”

Is Typology Cruelty Free?

Typology is vegan and certified cruelty-free by PETA.

Typology Reviews

Typology reviews on the brand’s website are overall very positive. The product with the most reviews is the Typology Tinted Serum, which has earned an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars after more than 3,700 reviews.

The positive reviews for the Typology Tinted Serum mention that it offers light natural coverage that lasts all day long.

For example, one review says, “I am one of those that embraces the ‘no makeup, makeup’ and never thought I would find a foundation-like product to give me that result. Well, I was wrong. To get the effect I have tried application with a sponge, brush and fingers. My best no makeup, makeup result is finger application and a final light buff with a face brush. My skin stays soft and luminous all day. I have noticed some fading of small discoloration on my face which could be the Vitamin C. Really nice product. Personally I need very little of this product to coverage a full face and always shake right before use.”

However, there are a handful of negative reviews for the Typology Tinted Serum. Many of these reviews are concerning the design of the bottle and pipette. Others mention that the serum causes the face to look shiny/oily.

For example, one review says, “Disappointed with this product. 1. The design of the bottle is flawed, every other time the pipette does not work or sucks in a random volume of product. 2. The color (clear type 2) oxidizes and gives an orange complexion. 3. Texture is heavy, leaves an oily film that exacerbates shine and the appearance of pores (not suitable for combination and oily skin). Not at all the desired healthy glow effect.”

Our Verdict

  • Products are fragrance free
  • Minimalist formulations
  • Many positive Typology reviews
  • Typology is vegan and certified cruelty-free by PETA
  • Budget-friendly

What Are Some Alternatives to Typology Skincare Products?

If you’re looking for skincare products to address the signs of aging, we recommend Carrot & Stick. Carrot & Stick maximizes the use of powerful ingredients and minimizes the use of superficial ones, resulting in advanced skincare solutions that help promote healthy, more youthful-looking skin.

One serum we recommend is The Repair Serum. The formula contains a proprietary blend of plant-based peptides and neuropeptides that work together to promote smoother, more radiant-looking skin while soothing and brightening botanicals impart an ageless glow.

Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B9 deliver an instant boost of hydration as a blend of synthesized, natural plant growth factors that encourage natural cell turnover and nutrient absorption to nourish and transform dull, uneven-looking skin.
