-Rodan & Fields

If you’re a woman in your 30s or up, there’s a good chance that a fellow mom or gym pal has tried to sell you Rodan + Fields products. Like a growing number of companies, Rodan + Fields relies on an army of “consultants” to sell its products directly to consumers.

Women, especially stay-at-home moms looking for flexible work options, have jumped on the peer-to-peer bandwagon. In their free time, they sell skincare brands such as Beautycounter, Younique and Ever Skin as well as retail brands such as India Hicks and Stella & Dot.

The peer-to-peer business model isn’t new. Women in the 60s sold Tupperware to each other at home-based parties, and brands such as Mary Kay and Avon established themselves by having their saleswomen sell directly in their communities. What is new is how brands such as Rodan + Fields have taken the peer-to-peer model and adapted it for the digital age. This new army of consultants uses Facebook and Instagram to promote the products. They host shopping parties with plenty of cocktails and may casually mention a fabulous new lash product in the school car line or at Pilates class. Out of all the peer-to-peer beauty companies on the market today, Rodan + Fields is by far one of the most successful.

What’s Inside Rodan and Fields Skincare?

Here’s a closer look at the active ingredients commonly used in Rodan and Fields skincare products. Vitamin C, retinol, and peptides make up the core ingredients for the Rodan and Fields skincare line. These ingredients should all be part of your skincare routine.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is used throughout the Rodan and Fields collection, in products such as REDEFINE Rejuvenation Mask, REVERSE Dual Active Brightening Complex, and more.

But our favorite Vitamin C serum is Carrot & Stick The Defence Serum. It contains 3 distinct types of Vitamin C that work together to help fight free radical damage. We recommend using it every morning.

Peptides
Rodan and Fields incorporate RFp3, a proprietary system of two skin-signaling peptides to soothe and restore skin, coupled with a targeted protease inhibitor that works synergistically with the peptides and skin’s natural processes to improve skin barrier, brighten complexion and prolong treatment benefits.

Our choice for a peptide serum is Carrot & Stick The Repair Serum. It contains 7 plant-based peptides to promote plumper and smoother-looking skin. It also has skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Retinol
The Rodan and Fields REDEFINE Regimen contains Retinoids in the PM step, since retinoids should be used at night.

Use retinoids at night. We recommend this retinoid oil serum. It contains Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, an ingredient that provides similar benefits with less irritation.

What is Rodan + Fields?

Rodan + Fields was started by two Stanford trained dermatologists, Katie Rodan and Kathy Fields. The duo had previously created Proactiv, a skincare line designed to target acne prone skin. It was a game changer because it was sold through infomercials, and it worked. The pair licensed Proactiv to Guthy-Renker, a company that sells products directly to consumers via infomercials.

In 2002 they launched Rodan + Fields. The skincare line is aimed at women age 30 and up. Estee Lauder bought the company and sold it in department stores but the line didn’t do well. Rodan and Fields bought their company back and in 2007 started to sell the products through a network of consultants. It was a hit. Social media proved to be a boon for the company as happy customers posted before and after selfies.

Fast forward a few years, and according to EuroMonitor International, Rodan + Fields is the number one skincare brand in North America in 2017 in terms of total sales, and has around 300,000 consultants. The company is valued around $1 billion.

What does Rodan + Fields Sell?

Rodan + Fields sells a comprehensive line of skincare products, which are broken down into four categories: Redefine, Reverse, Unblemish and Soothe. Redefine is designed for aging, Reverse for age spots and uneven skin tone, Unblemish for acne and acne breakouts and Soothe for sensitive, irritated skin conditions, such as rosacea. A line of enhancements supplement the range, including Enhancements Micro-Dermabrasion Paste, a body lotion and Active Hydration Bright Eye Complex. There’s also a small line of Dermacosmetics, which is makeup with skin improving ingredients.

What Are Some of the Most Popular Rodan + Fields Products?

Rodan + Fields sells individual products as well as skincare kits. The Redefine Regimen kit retails for $199 and is meant to improve the appearance of fine lines and pores, and help users get smoother, firmer looking skin. The kit includes a daily cleansing mask; pore minimizing toner; daily moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF 30 and a night cream.

Reverse regimens are meant to address skin discoloration by brightening skin and fading dark spots. The starting kit sells for $190 and includes five products: a Deep Exfoliating Wash containing alpha-hydroxy acid to whisk away dead skin cells; an Intensive Brightening Toner that contains a blend of salicylic Acid, kojic acid, licorice and mulberry extract, plus a Dual Active Brightening Complex that is packed with vitamin C and retinol. A broad spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen protects the face from sun damage.

One of the company’s most buzzed about products is the Enhancements Lash Boost, retailing for $150. It looks like a tube of mascara but contains a serum that should be applied to the upper lashes and eyebrows to give the appearance of lush, longer-looking lashes and thicker looking brows.

Do Rodan + Fields Products Work?

As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding- or in the sales numbers. Rodan + Fields is the top selling brand in the US which means the company is doing something right. Take a closer look at the ingredients in many of the products and you’ll see a range of beauty all-stars such as retinol, which is the gold-standard for tackling fine lines and wrinkles and encouraging cell turnover. For skin lightening and brightening, the company uses ingredients which are proven winners, such as alpha-hydroxy acid to smooth and soften skin, as well as kojic acid, a natural brightening agent. Rodan + Fields isn’t using obscure ingredients in their products – what they are doing is using ingredients known to have a positive effect on the skin.

Should Use a Supplement to Support Collagen?

Yes, collagen adds density and plumpness to your skin.

In your 20’s and 30’s, natural collagen production starts to decline.

When natural collagen declines, skin loses its elasticity and bounce. This contributes to lines, wrinkles and a loss of firmness.

If you are over 30, we recommend including a plant based collagen support supplement in your skincare routine.

Our recommendation is Collagen Bounce. It supports skin’s natural collagen production, inside out.

How much does Rodan + Fields Cost?

Rodan + Fields products are expensive, and the price point is in line with what you’d expect at department stores and high end cosmetics boutiques. The Redefine Ramp It Up kit is $336. It contains six products (and a dermaroller) designed to visibly firm and smooth skin to combat the visible signs of aging.

Individual products are also pricey. Active Hydration Body Replenish, a body cream, sells for $66. The microdermabrasion paste is $80 while the Unblemish Dual Intensive Acne Treatment sells for $102. The star ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, which is common in many acne fighting products. Customers need to decide for themselves whether these ingredients are worth the cost, or if they could find similar products at a lower price point.

The peer-to-peer selling model also may not appeal to everyone. Some women like the idea of building a relationship with a sales consultant, while others feel uneasy or obligated to buy products from a friend or acquaintance. The blurring of lines between friendship and commerce that isn’t for everyone.

Are There Any Side Effects With Rodan + Fields?

Any product has the potential to cause irritation or inflammation of the skin. Some of the ingredients to look out for are retinols, which can cause excessive drying and peeling, as well as any products containing alcohol.

It’s also important for users to read the usage guide carefully.

For example, with the Enhancements Lash Boost, Rodan + Fields says it is only meant to be applied to the upper lash and eyebrows. The company advises against using it on the lower lashes, as it may cause irritation in the eye area. One ingredient in the Lash Boost that has caused concern is isopropyl cloprostenate, which is a type of medication that was used to treat eye conditions such as glaucoma.

In spring 2018, a federal class-action lawsuit was filed in the US alleging that Rodan + Fields did not disclose potential side effects of the isopropyl cloprostenate. The lawsuit alleges that Lash Boost users have experienced “serious side effects, including change(s) in iris color, eyelid drooping, itchy eyes, eye/lid discoloration, thinning and loss of eyelashes/loss of eyelash hair, eye sensitivity, eye infections, and vision impairment,” according to the filing. Rodan + Fields has denied any wrongdoing.

Another ingredient to watch out for is hydroquinone. It is highly effective at lightening dark spots but is not without its controversies. It is banned in Europe, and some studies indicate it might be a carcinogen. It can also cause irritation. In the US, it is available in over the counter products as well as by prescription in a higher concentration. The Reverse Skin Lightening Treatment as well as the Skin Lightening Toner both contain 2% hydroquinone, the highest concentration of the ingredient available without a prescription.

An absolutely amazing product👍I’m 56 years old and the Redefine range especially the rejuvenation mask worked wonders on my skin.
The comments I get are, did you have a facial? You’re glowing! What are you using?

Rodan and Fields changed my life. I’ve been religiously using their Unblemish regimen for 4 years and will never go back! I seriously cannot say enough good about it. I had TERRIBLE painful, embarrassing, chronic, cystic acne forever and tried everything under the sun including topical and oral prescription treatments and many other regimens and nothing worked. I used to never leave the house without make up and was sooo insecure about my skin. Rodan and Fields changed everything. I have PERFECT glowing skin now and hardly ever wear makeup. I get complimented on my complexion all the time. I absolutely love this brand and wish I could scream it from the rooftops how it changed my life. I will never stop using Rodan and Fields!!!!

Returned an auto ship item but the refund never showed up on my credit card account. I disputed the charge since I already returned the product. Called R+F and was told because I disputed the charge that they would not give me back my money. So now I’m out the money and do not have the product. What a scam. Poor customer service. They don’t care about customer retention.

  • Gayle Clark, just go to your account and cancel - It's that easy! Original review: Jun 09, 2022. Reply

Before R+F fulfills a flexible shipment order for its “Preferred customers”, it sends out an email 5 days in advance giving them the opportunity to either cancel, skip, or change their order. All you need to do is to log in and select CANCEL! Also, cancel your Preferred Customer account. You’d waste your money trying a class action suit when the information is so transparent.

I started on the Redefine Regimen about 3 years ago . After about 6 weeks it was clear to me my skin was smoother looking, with less visible lines and wrinkles and has a pretty, even glow. I loved it so much I decided it was a no-brainer to share it out with my friends and so that’s why I became a consultant. I love Rodan+ Fields everything they create is clinically tested and the company is sneaks innovating. If you’re interested in finding out more or working with me, take the quiz here which indicates which products the doctors would recommend for your particular skin care concerns.

Some people may have an allergic reaction or initial reaction to new products. That goes for any product. All products with ingredients are chemical products. It’s the dosage and application that matter. Same goes for the “toxic” ingredients people are wary of.
In toxically high dosages anything will hurt you. That’s why R+F products are specifically formulated with the right ingredients, in the right formulations applied in the right order.
Same for the lash boost, that ingredient is minute and the lawsuits aren’t going anywhere because people have yet to prove they have received the products directly from a consultant as opposed to some other illegal outlet. When I company becomes a billion dollar company people see money signs $$$
    I hope this helps.

As a licensed esthetician just reading the ingredients is enough to make me want to be sick. There MANY known carcinogens in this. Anyone with a brain knowing this and still continues to sell this product to their friends and neighbors isn’t right. This is complete garbage and dangerous! Any skin care brought through a third party seller who has to pay the company to get the products is a red flag. Go to a professional who can help you with your concerns and do research.

I was considering trying this skincare line and was very interested in the lash boost serum but I am very uncomfortable with the cancer warnings given with the products. When I asked the consultant about the warnings her reply was all companies have to give those warnings. After asking my eye doctor for her opinion of the lash boost serum I decided to walk away. She said she would never recommend it to anyone and gave me a list of harmful effects associated with the lash boost product.

I’ve been using the redefine line for fine lines and wrinkles/minimizing pores for 4 years. I get the entire kit including: morning cream, toner, mask and night cream. I use all products as listed in the instructions daily in the morning and at night and I’ve seen a huge improvement in my pore size and wrinkles around eyes and forehead! I stopped using Rodan and fields for several months and immediately noticed a difference with my pore size starting to enlarge again. I’ve since been back on the regimen! I consistently use and saw results within the first 30 days!

I stop using R&F products after allergic reactions that happens twice. After 1st reaction I had some rest from R&F products but than I had started using it again, but the 2nd allergic reaction was really bad, my skin was on fire and I recognized tiny bumpe all over my face. I would never ever come back to use the products again! It damaged my skin! Since I’ve stopped using it I got a huge problematic skin! DO NOT USE THIS CHEMICAL PRODUCTS!!!

I started using the lash boost serum. At first, my eyelashes looked great. They grew and began to look thicker. However, over time, I started to notice that my eye lashes would fall out extremely easily. Since I started using the product my eyelashes are now way thinner and delicate than better.
I had to stop using the product and start using Castrol oil to help my eye lashes again.
I would not suggest at all. This product is so expensive and there are way more natural ways to grow and thicken your eyelashes. Look out!

I am an R+F consultant in Australia. I have been using the products for six months and I have had fantastic results and lots of positive comments. I threw out all of the other products because they simply were not anti-aging as promoted. R+F do use social media and it is disappointing that many people are upset at this- we are trying to rum a legitimate business and if you do not like the posts ignore them, its that simple. As for customer service here in Australia they are very helpful.

I was scrolling through this page and came across your comment. I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you. The person you purchased from should have told you there is no commitment to every 60 days autoship. Unfortunately this was a consultant issue not a company issue. The customer can delay their order as long as they need until they are ready. I normally handle my customer accounts and make sure they are aware of their next order. If they are not ready, I simply delay. Again…I apologize for this irresponsible consultant that sold to you.

I ordered a ONE time order, yet they continue to debut my account over 170.00 and send me products that I send back with a cancellation letter, and a cease and desist order. This is ridiculous. I wish I had never heard of this company. Their products aren’t worth 25.00. And to return them each time I have to pay shipping. I will be looking further for a class action lawsuit against this company.

I struggled with cystic acne for 4 years, trying every product on the market. Spent lots of money seeing several dermatologist through the years with several rounds of antibiotics and precription creams. Unblemish saved my face! After 3-6 months of continuous use my skin cleared! I have been using it for over 3 years now! Now I am able to incorporate other products from their line to help my wrinkles, sun spots, and sensitivity. I love that as the seasons change and my skin changes I can incorporate different products to help! I absolutely love Rodan + Fields and will probably never use anything different on my skin!

I fell for the Facebook pictures/reviews myself. Tried 2 rounds of Redefine and Reverse at $350 each. Not only did these products have ZERO results on me, I am STILL TRYING to get $700 in refunds on 2 different returns, unopened regimens, returned 3 months ago. Starts with “we didn’t receive either of those back”, then I provide both tracking numbers proving they certainly did receive them back. Then “we’ll look into it” but i don’t hear back. Then “are you doing a chargeback? we can’t process this, it says you are doing a chargeback” (I wasn’t). then “we will process this now” then “if you don’t hear back from us, maybe you should just do a chargeback”, then “we are sending you a check now” and still no check 2 weeks later. My last call Friday for a status update was told “i don’t have access to that information, i will call you back today after I research it”, and shocking… no call. About 10 calls & emails since November and I’m out $700 and the product. The lash boost did work. I suspect most reviews are made by consultants selling the product. Amazon has some products blocked from reviewing due to “unusual reviewing patterns”, so something fishy is going on.

I have always had decent skin, a few break outs here and there but never that bad. But a few months ago my once got pretty bad. I order the Rodan + Fields Unblemish to help treat it. I can say without a doubt this is the worst product I have ever used. I have used it for about 6 1/2 weeks and it has only ruined my skin. My face has never looked worse in my entire life. I have huge major cystic acne on my forehead and my chin and lots of little zits everywhere else. It also dried out my face so bad that it constantly peels. I never write reviews but I am so self conscious about my skin now I don’t want others to buy this product and feel the same way I do!

  • Susan Original review: Feb 14, 2019. Reply

This article mentions buying product on amazon but for everyone new to Rodan + Fields I would advise to ONLY buy Rodan + Fields products straight from the Consultant. Don’t ever buy from a 3rd party like amazon or ebay because they are “resellers” who could be selling a rip off product. and if you try to return it they likely won’t let you. Rodan + Fields website or consultant is the only way to officially get their product with 60 day guarantee.

    Haylee,
I’m sorry you had a not so good experience! I personally use unblemish and have been for almost 2 years. I experienced what you did; my breakouts definitely got worse and my skin had never been that bad. My skin didn’t start clearing up until I hit month 9 and since then Ive only had a few pimples due to medications I am taking. The 60 day trial can be helpful but if you pay attention to the clinical trials most people don’t see major results until maybe a 90 day mark. But again the trial is helpful if you just plain don’t like it haha!
I hope you found something that works for your skin!

  • Eyelashe serum works, but... Original review: Jan 30, 2019. Reply

First of all let’s just one thing clear, this company is just another pyramid company where you have to get consultants, sign people up, have parties, add new members, sell so much product per month etc. Also everyone hates companies like this, because it causes issues between friends, family and relationships in general. No one wants to sign up to be a “preferred member,” or buy anything for that matter because they don’t want to be obligated to be on an auto shipment…I know I sure don’t. I actually had to cancel my card just to get off the auto-ship because my cousin would forget to “stall my shipment.” My cousin started selling this and ever since then I have been constantly harassed to sign up for things, purchase things, have parties, ask my friends to sign up etc. Out of obligation I ordered a few things and received a skin care set from her for free. I Purchased the lash serum which works surprisingly well! Then I ordered the redifine regimen and she gave me the reverse regimen. Both do what their supposed to do, but I also found just as much success in other, less expensive products/brands. She also signed me up to be a preferred customer because “she needed to sign up at least four people for the month.” Now she’s calling me weekly for my reorder or to see if I know anyone who would like to sign up. I’ve only used less than 3/4 of each regimen. I don’t like doing the auto ship and use my products on a normal basis, so this whole monthly/bi-monthly auto ship is a no-go for me and probably most people. So basically it’s just another expensive skin care line like many others with the exception of the lash serum which works wonderfully. It takes about 6 weeks to start working, but my lashes are amazing!! One tube lasted me for six months and even though it is not recommended to use it that long, I had absolutely no issues using It for that duration. And for $150 a pop, I’m going to use it that long. So if R&F ever reads this here’s my tip…drop the auto ship and the prices and change your business tactics. Just be an online store and ditch your consultants, because no one wants to be harassed by consultants trying to make their quotas each month! If we want to buy your products, we’d much rather do it on our own accord.

The Reverse product line burned my face and the company, instead of switching me to a different product, told me to go see my doctor. I used it as instructed and found the burning and dryness to be too uncomfortable and discontinued use after a couple of weeks. The company’s response that I see a doctor was disappointing to say the least.

Hey Carol! I just happened upon this sight and your comment jumped out at me. After reading I felt the need to reply 🙂
I am so sorry that you had that experience! My mother also gets very itchy and irritated eyes from using lash boost, so you aren’t alone. However, I have lost count of how many satisfied lash boost customers I have. It doesn’t irritate most people’s eyes, but you may unfortunately be in that small category of people who do.
In case you still had the desire to use it I wanted to tell you a couple things in case your consultant didn’t tell you.( By the way, very unfortunate to hear that he or she didn’t tell you about the 60 day return. I myself have returned something I decided I didn’t need).
So the most important thing with lash boost is that you WIPE the excess off on the lid first! Too much product is the main culprit of redness and irritation. In addition, most people (myself included) find that the redness and irritation goes away after 3-4 days of use. Like anything else, your skin might need to get used to it and that may take a couple days. Usually people find no issue after fixing those two things.

Again, so sorry for your experience!

I ordered the Unblemish Regimen from a facebook consultant who I know well. She was very helpful and the products were nice. She informed me that my skin would get a little worse before it got better. I was aware this would happen, but I did not think it would get as bad as it did. After about three weeks I contacted my consultant to see why my skin was not getting better. She suggested I keep using it for a long time. My skin has never looked worse in my entire life. I used this regimen for 3 months and had to stop because my acne became so bad. I then tried to return this because they have a satisfaction guarantee. But its only good for 60 days. They will tell you to keep using the product so that you go over the 60 day return limit and then you are out almost $200 dollars. This was a waste of my money and I will not order from R and F again.

I purchased lash boost from a consultant and i didn’t try it for several weeks mainly because i was just so busy i simply forgot. When i did try it my eyes were so red and irritated and my vision was not very good either. I didn’t realize that was what was making my eyes so horrible so i used it for a couple more days before realizing the reason. I stopped and the next day my eyes were so much better. I tried just dabbing a tiny bit on my finger and trying it on my eyes again and the red eyes were back same as before. I was not told there was a guarantee but i would have missed it anyway since i had waited a while to use it. What a waste of my hard earned money!!! Very unsatisfied customer here!!!!!

I agree 100%, Barbara. That is how I practice my business as well. These products are not for everyone and I am not here to “sell” them…but rather educate and share information.

I also watched my friend’s skin change over a few months and I reached out to her to see what she was using. She did not pressure at all. She gave me the information. I did some of my own research and I tried it, mainly because I had spent WAY more than that on anti-aging regimens that cost MORE and only last ONE month, not 2-3. The most disheartening part–no refund option and they did NOT work whatsoever. I figured with the 60-day money back guarantee with R+F, I couldn’t go wrong. My results have been incredible and I no longer have to cake on the foundation like I used to. I used to go through a bottle a month of foundation/cover-up. I haven’t bought one since I joined over 3 years ago. I will never go back. Of course, I want to help others achieve the same results.

I am truly sorry for those of you who had bad experiences. Clearly, you had a consultant who wasn’t practicing in the same manner. That isn’t the norm and I am truly sorry you endured those issues. For me and in my over 3 years of experience, I have NEVER had a customer not receive exactly what was promised. Customer service is phenomenal and the business is what you make of it. My advice, find a non-pushy consultant with whatever company you choose to try. I believe in practicing with integrity and with the goal of helping others get the same type of incredible results I have seen. Who wouldn’t want to NOT have to wear make-up all the time? It may be pricey (certainly not the priciest I have tried) but it does work for me and for most of my customers. For those it didn’t, they simply returned their product for a full refund. No hard feelings on either side.

I wish you all the best of luck!

I not only developed hives on my arms, but angiodema (different portions of my lips randomly swelling every 6 days or so). I was using a small amount of the Redefine Intensive Renewing Serum on my upper lip. I actually don’t know for sure if all this is the result of the product, but did not have these problems before I started the treatment. I stopped the treatment this week so let’s see if the hives/angiodema also go away. Sure hope so!

Juice Beauty, Tata Harper and drunk elephant are all organic and all-natural. A lot of companies only put in a few natural ingredients and they are allowed to call it natural.!!!!!!!!!!! But these three are truly all natural. I have been in the business for years and these three companies are the best

I think it’s the hydroquinone that they have in their products. I have been in the beauty business for years and I have been told on numerous occasions you can only use hydroquinone for 2 months and then you have to go off of it. It does have the potential to cause cancer if you read about it.

    WARNING!!!
    Severe Reaction
After Using Rodan and Fields Redefine Skin Products

    REDEFINE AMP It Up

I purchased the above products in good faith after a Rodan and Fields representative spoke highly of them. I have always used upmarket well known brands such as La Mer, Guerlain, Dior, Sisley, La Prairie, Chantecaille, Payot and By Terry. I have never had a reaction to any of these products.

I used all of the Rodan and Fields products day and night for two days and the reaction that started has to be seen to be believed – see photos

The reaction occurred on my face, neck and in between my fingers where the cream touched when applying.

As soon as I realised the reaction from the products was occurring and getting worse, I ceased using them.
I contacted Rodan and Fields in Australia to return them for a full refund. The company did refund my money and when they saw my photos agreed they needed to be sent to their American home base for analysis. I insisted someone from America contact me, as I had to see a skin specialist and was prescribed prednisolone (cortisone) in order to clear up the reaction, which took weeks.

I did hear back from a Rodan and Fields American rep who was very nice on the phone. She took notes on what had happened and passed this on to the company. I requested reimbursement for the holiday I was on at the time it occurred as it significantly impacted on what I could and couldn’t do –see photos as to why. I was in the Gold Coast and couldn’t risk going out in the sun and I looked terrible –people asked what happened? Have you been burnt?

After three months of emails back and forth the company has denied any responsibility for my reaction. They stated:

    1. Your reaction is not from our product

    2. You were out in the sun all day -not true, I specifically told them I was not out in the sun and had been at Commonwealth Games events that were inside and/or at night.

    3. I only used the products once – I told them I applied the products am and pm for two days

    4. Australia is a country where you need to know how to apply sunscreen – I had told the rep I always have an SPF of 20 or higher on my face either through my skin care or foundation.

    4. You indicated you have sensitive skin – Yes I do have sensitive skin but only reactions to some foods that I eat. I told the Rodan and Fields Rep who sold me the products that I have sensitive skin.

I am disgusted in Rodan and Fields’ Response and the lies they have stated in order not to take any responsibility for what happened to my skin. Their motto is ‘To do the right thing!’

I want to warn as many people as possible about what can happen when using this particular Rodan and Fields range. It has many active ingredients and my specialist said he would never recommend a product like this.

I would be interested to know if there are other people who have had severe reactions to these products.

That’s a professional response. Wow. I’m not sure what you are calling Helena’s excuses but hives/skin allergies are not fun. Consultants may have access to a ton of reference materials but that doesn’t make them derm experts anymore than reading how to perform an appendectomy would provide you the knowledge to do so. Good luck with your product.

    Hello!

I am 42 and while I am blessed with great genes for skin my age was starting to show. I also lived in tanning booths when I was younger, so crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles were getting worse.

I met up with a friend from high school who was selling R+F. I was upfront about having no desire to sell anything, I’m not a fan of hard sales and that seems to be the only way to succeed with MLM companies. She was fine with that and went over the products with me. I started with the redefine regimen. Since I spent the money I was determined to follow through with the steps. Within a few months my crow’s feet went away and my skin started looking fantastic. I became a preferred customer and slowly added in the enhancements over time. I’ve now been a customer for years and the money I spend on R+F more than pays for itself in the fact that I no longer need to use any other type of make-up, especially foundation. Even in the winter I can go without most of the time. If I’m going out I use their mineral peptides foundation- a little goes a long way. For years I was loyal to Bare Minerals but I now prefer R+F. It’s lighter and more natural looking for me. My regiment lasts longer than a month, so my cost is very reasonable. I use mascara and lip gloss for makeup now, that’s it. And thanks to the lip renewing serum most of the time I don’t even need the lip gloss.

I agree with those that have commented that not all products work for everyone. R+F def works for me. My friend had stopped selling a while ago so I did have to find a new consultant. The lady I buy from now is an absolute dream. I have yet to get an order sent that I didn’t need and she’s always hosting sales, specials and sending samples to me. She doesn’t use a hard sell approach, not that she would need to with me.

I’m very happy with R+F, I feel like I’ve finally found something that works with my skin type and I’ll be using for years to come.

    Angel

Diane I’ve also been having seriously bad eye issues – itchy red scaly watery and wondering if it is to do with starting R+F. Helpful to hear your comment. Hope you’re starting to feel better.

I tried R&F because a friend sells it. I am open-minded enough to make my own decisions. So here are my opinions – most of it is hype and not worth the money. But a few products I love and will continue to purchase. The sunscreen is good stuff – doesn’t feel disgusting. The lotion is wonderful – seriously helps very dry skin. The lip balm is okay, not fabulous but much better than most I have tried, and I have tried everything out there I believe! I read the reviews about the lash boost and was concerned, but decided to try it. I admit….I love that stuff. I have extremely thin hair and basically had zero eyelashes that were visible. This stuff is fabulous. I even buy it for my sister now. All the other stuff I have tried is okay but I can find cheaper and better products elsewhere – I even prefer Oil of Olay as a moisturizer over all this expensive stuff. But the stuff I like……I really like!

    Dear Bad Lash,
So sorry you had that experience! The thing I learned about lashboost is that you have to wipe the wand of , like if you were applying liquid eyeliner, and us very sparingly. A little goes a ling way. and only use on top lashes. Also, its not money wasted because Rodan and Fields has a 60 day money back guarantee! Check back with your friend who sold it to you. Google the Rodan and Fields return form. Its online. Hope this helps 🙂

I had great results with Lash Boost luckily and it didn’t bother my eyes. Why didn’t you return it and get your refund? That’s exactly what it’s there for! If it hasn’t been 60 days since you ordered, you still can.

  • Sandi Original review: Apr 09, 2018. Reply

There is a 60 day money back gaurantee… it doesn’t make sense that you would just throw your product away.

Many Lash products have fragrance in them, though you may not smell them. I found out the hard way that I am allergic to fragrance in mascara (Estee Lauder) and other lash products. Just FYI in case this helps

I also had the same problem. I would put it on at night and the next day my eyes were red, not puffy but really red. I started using it only 3 times a week and now my lashes are amazing! I get many compliments.

I’m a preferred customer with R&F and I forgot to change my auto ship date for my order. My order was stuff I already had. When the product came, I “simply” shipped it back for a refund. I followed the return policy as stated on the packaging slip. Well….after 15 days of not seeing my refund, I emailed the company and they tried telling me that they never received the product. My tracking information through UPS stated otherwise. I continued to email and they continued to refuse my refund. It’s now been 31 days since my return and I still don’t have my refund! I emailed my R&F consultant, and she is doing all she can to help! What a joke! Their slogan of 60 day money back guarentee maybe should be changed to “it takes 60 days to get your money back, but you might not get it at all!”

  • Janet Original review: Mar 29, 2018. Reply

When a product website says ingredients cause cancer, maybe you shouldn’t be using it. I noticed it after I used the Reverse Lightening regiment and woke up with a red, swollen, painful face. To make matters worse, I reached out to my consultant who never responded to me. She had no problem getting right back to me when I wanted to purchase the product. Once I purchased the product, I never heard from her again.

Umblemish Regimen – I was so excited to start using this skin care regimen. I had heard amazing things and was ready for my skin to finally be clear. I have combination skin, never had super bad acne, but always 5-10 bumps then getting worse around my cycle. I decided to give it a try because of their 60 day money-back guarantee. My skin got tremendously worse. I kept reading “it gets worse before it gets better” so I stuck to it for 52 days not missing a single day or step. My skin got extremely rough and dry and my acne got so much worse. My skin completely changed. I was having to exfoliate anytime I was going to wear makeup, and it was completely rejecting my makeup. It wouldnt go on my skin anymore, it wouldnt stay on, and no matter how much I put on it did not cover up any of my acne. I even tried getting different makeup after about 5 weeks to see if that would make a difference, even worse. On day 53, I returned it (the return process took about 2 months to actually get my money back). Just 2 weeks after stopping use of the product, my face was back to normal. Moderate acne, my makeup works again, my skin doesnt feel dry and rough. I DO NOT recommend this product.

WARNING – Customer Service will not help or assist you when you have a problem. I couldn’t log in to push back the automatic order, so I requested their assistance. I requested help before they sent the package, however they waited until after they had sent the package and still haven’t help me log. They are now telling me I will have to pay them shipping and handling and pay to send back the package. I can’t use the product, it dries out my eyes, they go bloodshot and then they are blurry the next day. VERY FRUSTRATED.

I haven’t met a woman yet that wouldn’t like to have beautiful long eyelashes. At age 50 I thought I would buy from my friend who is also an anesthesiology nurse. Yes she has quite the medical background. She is a wonderful person however she is caught up in the hype of yet another company promising wonderful financial gain. I utilized the lash boost. I put it on as directed when I woke up the next morning my eyes were red. My eyes looked puffy and when I splashed water on my face in the morning they began to sting. I mentioned this to her and she said she had no idea she had never experienced any of that before. I believe her I don’t think she would be lying to me about that. Perhaps she never experienced any redness, puffiness or other adverse effect. The fact of the matter is that I did and quite honestly I only care about my reaction! I thought maybe it was just an off day so I tried again. Exact same result. That lash boost that set me back quite a few bucks along with some other goodies that were free for trying actually are still sitting in my drawer. After reading about all of the other people that I’ve had adverse reactions I think I’m just going to throw them in the trash and chalk that up to being enthusiastic over the possibility. It was always so annoying to read the multitude of Facebook posts advertising long lashes and better skin. I guess I’ll take my short lashes and healthy eyelids over a potential serious problem. I guess I am most annoyed at myself for not researching the ingredients.

I am an R&F consultant, but I would have to agree with you, WG10. I got into the business for me and I am still in it for me. When my friends ask what am I doing that makes me look younger, I tell them about the products. If they are interested, I show and tell. If they aren’t or maybe even just a little, I tell them as much as they want to know. I am always available if they ever become interested. If I have to hard sell this product or try to steal another’s prospect, then this product is obviously no good. Before I signed up, I watched my friend’s face transform for over a year. It’s a product that really does work, but like a lot of things, it isn’t for everybody. One will only waste their own precious time and resources if they don’t try it out first and make sure it is something that will work for them; however, any multi-level marketing business or scheme, as some would like to call it, takes lots of work and integrity before one starts to make any money at it. My friend is starting on year five in the business and is just now able to call it her working business, because she has built her business on a foundation of integrity, not hard sales and stealing other’s potential consultants. Myself, well, I am one of her “broken legs” because I am in it for just me.

When I first started using R&F products, I started with the Soothe Regimen. In my entire life, I had never found any product I could use to cleanse my face because I was hyper sensitive to all products; warm water and a little soap was all I needed. Needless to say, I was very hesitant in trying anything. I started with the Soothe every other day. It burned at first, so I cut back even more until I could start adding more days. Eventually, I could use it every day. After 10 months, I switched to Redefine and I liked it even better. After 3 1/2 years going between these 2, I decided to try the Reverse Regimen. Biggest MISTAKE ever. My face broke out with red blotchy and really itchy spots. My hairline was the worst on top of the fact that it dried my face out so bad that I flaked like I had psoriasis. I used the product for 3 weeks thinking, “This is just typical. Hang on;it’ll get better.” Like other customers, I was told the same things… I had to go back to the Soothe regimen to calm my face down in addition to using a doctor prescribed ointment. 2 months have passed and my face is about 80% better. Saying all of this just means that we, as consumers, have a lot of choices to choose from for our skin care. There isn’t a “one size fits all” skin cleansing regimen out there. Find what works for you, and your budget, and call it a day. BTW, I still love R&F products; it has taken me time to know which ones work for me. Reverse is definitely not one of them.

I’m an Esthetician with a passion for helping to educate people to become more informed consumers! Best thing you can do is learn to READ INGREDIENT LABELS!! Ingredients always speak for themselves. (Rodab and fields are subpar at best.) I’m always trying to find new ways to shed light on otherwise complex/confusing topics such as deciphering ingredients and manufacturing processes on my blog.

Many of the Rodan and Fields products include dimethicone and other polymers in their formulations (and near the top of the ingredient list- meaning they are amongst the highest concentration)…not only are the majority of the “beneficial ingredients” they claim in their marketing located near the bottom of every list (meaning they are in very low concentration), but many of them are being blocked from being able to absorb into the skin due to the presence of the larger molecular sizes of the ingredients that precede them.

These silicones are used for many reasons. First, they are cheap. Second, they sit on top of the skin and blur imperfections- giving a “false” and temporary illusion that the products are doing what they claim. But they actually impede the skin’s cellular turnover rate and are of other detriments to the skin over time and with cumulative exposure.

You can only purchase their products through licensed Esthetician’s – but they have a location finder on their site. I’ve used their professional and at-home products for over 4 years now (after trying countless other professional brands – including $$$ ones from abroad) and nothing compares. They finally bridged the gap between “natural” and “effective”! And the prices are also extremely reasonable.

I appreciate this company’s integrity in posting which products include carcinogenic ingredients. Go the the product page for each item you’re interested in and if it does include ingredients identified as being cancer-causing you’ll see a warning posted below the description.

There are plenty of cheaper alternatives and you should seek the advice of a dermatologist instead of an unqualified consultant that reads off index cards or recites someone else’s advice as if it were there own. Of course consultants recommend it because your condition is potential commission. Sad but true!

First of all their regimens don’t cost 400 or 500 dollars. And I don’t know about you but I had really bad sun damage. Looked like I had a dirt tan. I tried all the other “over the counter” stuff , didn’t work and I couldn’t return it for any refund, let alone a FULL refund. I used the reverse regimen and to no avail it WORKED. I finally had clear skin a even tone that even foundation wouldn’t cover correctly. I went from a preferred customer to a consultant. The products last 60 + days. So, with that said don’t knock it until you try it.
