What Is Revision Skincare?

Revision Skincare was started by John and Rob Muller more than 20 years ago. The product line was developed to be sold in physician’s offices and is available through the company’s affiliated network of medical spas and dermatologists, as well as on its own website. According to the company, Revision Skincare is meant to “provide targeted solutions for enhancing skin’s appearance and reducing signs of aging.” Revision Skincare says the brand is responsible for many industry firsts, including being the first to use peptides; the first to use THD ascorbate as an alternative to l-ascorbic acid; the first to create an at-home neck therapy category; and the first to develop an anti-aging tinted moisturizer containing 100% all mineral sunscreen, which the company says took 10 years to develop.

What Is the Concept Behind Revision Skincare?

According to the company, Revision Skincare was “founded to change the way professional skincare results are achieved. We believe youthful-looking skin can be accomplished without ever compromising skin’s long-term health.” The company says that its comprehensive approach to skincare embraces the use of peptides and products support the skin’s natural pH level. The products are formulated to harness the skin’s microbiome.

Where Can I Buy Revision Skincare Products?

Revision Skincare products are sold through its authorized network of dermatologists and plastic surgeons but some products are available on the company website.

Do Revision Skincare Products Work?

Finding the right products for your skin is rarely a straightforward process. A little trial and error is always necessary, as one person’s hero product may do nothing for you. It’s always helpful to look at customer reviews and editorial write ups as a starting point.

Revision Skincare has been around for decades and there is always a certain amount of implied trust with products that are sold at doctor’s offices. The products have also received writes ups in the mainstream press. The Intellishade Original moisturizer won a 2017 award from New Beauty magazine, as did the Nectifirm Advance in 2018. The Retinol Complete 0.5 got a write-up in Cosmopolitan in 2018, as well as a 2019 inclusion in a Byrdie story looking at “The Best Retinol Serums for Anyone Who Doesn’t Know Where to Start.” The Cut included the D.E.J Eye Cream in a 2019 story looking at “The Best Eye Creams, According to Experts”– While it is on the expensive side, it is a multitasking product that will treat just about any problem you may be experiencing.”

But what do real people think? Customer feedback can be found on retail websites such as Lovely Skin and Amazon. The Intellishade Tinted Moisturizer is a staff favorite at Lovely Skin and gets a 4.7 out of 5 star rating from about 480 customer reviews. Charm called it a winner. “A winner! If you are like me and don’t care for foundation, this is the product for you.” Ms RedHead gave it five stars, writing “This is one of my favorites! Love the way the moisturizer smooths onto my face and neck. The ‘tint’ blends perfectly with my complexion, and the SPF 45 is an added bonus. It’s like having three products in on.” Customers who gave it low stars wrote that it wasn’t great for dry skin; “I love Revision, but I’m not loving this tinted moisturizer…” Jenna Michelle didn’t think it provided enough coverage. “I thought this would be more coverage than it was which was disappointing,” she wrote.

Nectifirm gets a 4.6 rating based on 430 reviews. Retired Teacher felt that it worked. “My crepey neck issue is quite severe. I suspect that it will continue to be very noticeable, but Nectifirm is the only product out of many that I’ve tried which appears to have made somewhat of a positive change. I will continue to order Nectifirm when it is on sale.” Annie V. thought it was just “okay.” “First, I know there’s no miracle cure for turkey neck. Even so, when you pay this much, you hope for some results. Well, I just don’t see any improvement.”

On Amazon, the Brightening Facial Wash has more than 300 reviews, giving it a 4.1 out of 5 star rating. Chelli wrote, “I can actually SEE a huge improvement It’s the first skin care product I have ever purchased that I actually SEE a huge difference and for the better!!” But some users, like Araminta, found it “incredibly drying… I used it for 3 days morning and night with no problems until the third night, when for some reason my skin suddenly turned very red. The entire next day it was dry as a bone and burned.”

The Vitamin C Lotion 30% has 4.1 out of 5 stars on Amazon, from 175 reviews. Fans attribute the lotion to their glowing skin, like a customer who wrote, “I have definitely been able to see a difference after a couple of weeks use. My only complaint, and it’s a pretty big one, is the cost.” Some people thought it did nothing for their skin, like a customer who wrote, “I used this product for a year on the recommendation of my dermatologist and saw NO CHANGE or IMPROVEMENT in my skin! Don’t waste your money.”

My face feels sticky (tacky) after use of the Revision products. I use the minimal amount and wait 10 minutes before applying any other products, like sunscreen. I will call the aesthetician to inquire about this. So far, my skin feels terrible after applying this product,

    Revision Papaya Enzyme Cleanser Review

Revision Papaya Enzyme Cleanser is a facial cleanser that is claimed to lift away impurities, gently polish away dead surface cells, nourish skin, and cleanse without stripping the skin of its natural moisture content. One of the key ingredients in this cleanser is Carica papaya fruit extract, which contains the enzyme papain. Papain works on the surface of the skin to dissolve keratin, a type of protein that acts as a glue to keep skin cells together. By dissolving keratin, the papain enzymes helps to exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells, leaving skin looking brighter with a more even tone. Exfoliating the skin also helps to prevent acne since the build up of dead skin cells can clog pores. Revision Papaya Enzyme Cleanser contains several surfactants, including cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), and glycereth-2 cocoate. A surfactant molecule contains one end that is hydrophilic (attracted to water) and one end that is lipophilic (attracted to oil). This allows surfactants to attract and suspends oils, dirt, and other impurities that have accumulated on the skin and wash them away. Unfortunately, both cocamidopropyl betaine and SLS are known to cause skin irritation and sensitization. In fact, SLS is one of the most sensitizing cleansing agents used in skin care products. Plus, Revision Papaya Enzyme Cleanser contains fragrance, which can also aggravate the skin.

    Revision Brightening Facial Wash Review

If you’re looking for a face wash that offers both a super hydrating base as well as an exfoliating component, you may want to check out the Revision Brightening Facial Wash. This product was designed to use alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids to chemically exfoliate the skin while cleansing. While this isn’t necessarily a new idea in the skincare industry, many of the traditional exfoliating cleansers feature harsher, more aggressive surfactants and less emollients and humectants in their formulations, which over time, can dry out the skin. The Revision Brightening Facial Wash differentiates itself by including these ingredients, and several other actives, in an ultrarich, moisturizing base. Alongside the AHA’s and BHA’s this formula also contains vitamin C, licorice root, white tea and vitamin E. These ingredients help to brighten the skin, even out skin tone, fade hyperpigmentation, protect the skin, reverse signs of damage, condition the skin and boost antioxidants. Unfortunately, most of these actives aren’t left on the skin for long enough to produce the same reactions as a leave on product, but over time, these ingredients do help to steadily and gradually improve the overall condition of your skin.

    Revision D.E.J Eye Dream Review

If you’re on the hunt for an eye cream that offers something new and innovative in terms of formulation, you may want to check out the Revision Dej Eye Cream. This product was inspired by the Dermal-Epidermal Junction to rejuvenate the entire eye area, including the eyelids, in as little as two weeks. The two main active complexes in this product include the brand’s unique Pathway Technology as well as their Prebiotic Innovation. According to the brand, the formula behind this product that the unique technologies it includes work to visibility reduce the appearance of sagging wrinkles, redness and hooding around the eye area, including the eyelid. This product also works to provide hydration while also boost the skin’s own ability to retain moisture. Finally, this eye treatment defends and protects the skin from environmental stressors, while also supporting the skin’s microbiome. The idea of the skin’s microbiome and uses pre and probiotics to help support this complex network is just beginning to catch on in the industry, so it’s exciting to see brand’s like Revision paving the way. Your microbiome, as well as your skin barrier are two aspects of your skin that you don’t see, but can play a huge role in how your skin acts and looks overtime. Because of this, it’s important to support these essential skin processes with the right ingredients.

    Revision Vitamin C 30 Review

Vitamin C is easily one of the trickiest active ingredients to formulate with, so it’s crucial that capable brands utilize the best and most innovative tools possible. One of the brands that is setting a new standard for vitamin C based serums is Revision Skincare. Their range of vitamin C serums includes two different formulas with varying concentrations to suit different skin types and skin tolerance. Their most powerful formulations, the Revision Vitamin C 30, offers an incredible 30& concentration. Most serums on the market sit at between the 10 and 25% mark, so it’s very rare to find a serum or lotion that provides this level of potency. The main active in this formula is THD Ascorbate, which is a derivative of vitamin C. THD Ascorbate is very rarely seen in other products on the market, although derivatives themselves are becoming more and more popular as they are easier to formulate with and tend to be gentler on the skin. At a 30% concentration, this vitamin C lotion can help to brighten dull skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, while also protecting the skin against environmental aggressors like UV rays, pollution and free radicals. With all of this in mind, we would recommend this particular vitamin C serum to those of you who are looking for an extremely active formula and whose main concerns focus on anti-aging.

    INGREDIENTS

Revision Vitamin C Lotion 30% Review

Revision Vitamin C Lotion 30% contains one of the strongest concentrations of vitamin C available. It is said to brighten dull skin, provide moisturization, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This lotion is formulated with 30% tetrahexyldecyl (THD) ascorbate, a stable, lipid-soluble form of vitamin C. It is believed that this form of vitamin C can penetrate the skin better than other water-soluble forms because its fatty acid component helps aid penetration. Once inside the skin, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate has the ability to stimulate production of glycosaminoglycans. These are natural sugar molecules that absorb moisture, thus, help to maintain the skin’s hydration. In addition, vitamin C functions as a potent antioxidant that can protect the skin from free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Vitamin C also has the ability to brighten skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots.

You’ll find two more antioxidants in the Revision Vitamin C Lotion 30%, coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also known as ubiquinone, is naturally found within the mitochondria of cells and is essential for cellular energy production. When applied to the skin, CoQ10 functions as an antioxidant that can counteract both short?term environmental oxidative stress as well as age?related CoQ10 deficits. Vitamin E is a lipid soluble antioxidant that is incorporated into cell membranes in order to protect from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E also helps the skin retain moisture by strengthening the skin’s barrier function. Overall, Revision Vitamin C Lotion 30% combines three potent antioxidants in order to brighten, hydrate, and firm the skin.

    Revision Hydrating Serum Review

Revision Hydrating Serum is an ultra-light, oil-free serum that is said to promote a smooth, refreshed appearance, as well as alleviate tightness and moisturize without leaving skin feeling sticky. One of the key ingredients in this serum is sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid. This ingredient is a glycosaminoglycan (sugar molecule) that attracts moisture from the environment and draws that moisture into the skin’s upper layers. This provides both short- and long-term moisturization. Revision Hydrating Serum also contains a blend of natural fruit extracts (watermelon, apple, and lentil) that help to keep the skin uniformly hydrated. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, a type of peptide, is used in this serum to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Even though peptides are too large to be absorbed by the skin, they are able to increase collagen production by sending signals to other cells. Collagen is the protein that gives your skin a firm, smooth, youthful appearance. Therefore, since peptides can increase collagen production they are able to minimize signs of aging. Revision Hydrating Serum also contains vitamin E and pomegranate extract, which both provide strong antioxidant effects to protect skin from free radical damage. Lastly, honey and sea kelp extract can be found in the Revision Hydrating Serum in order to further hydrate and condition the skin.

    Revision Revox 7 Review

While oils can be an excellent skin softening ingredient, for some skin types, this category of ingredients can often do more harm than good. Since skin concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, as well as increased dryness can go hand and hand as we age, its no surprise that we often see formulations which aim to tackle both of these concerns with oil-rich formulas. But if these types of formulas aren’t working for you, or have caused some sensitivity over time, there are options out there that completely remove oils from the conversation. The Revision Revox 7 is an anti-aging, lightweight serum that is completely oil free, and utilizes peptides in order to deliver age-defying results. According to the brand, this product utilizes 7 different peptides at clinical levels in order to soften the appearance of 7 types of expression lines. These include forehead lines, glabella frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny nose lines, nasolabial laugh lines, lip lines and marionette lines. In clinical testing, subjects showed statistically significant improvement in the look of fine lines and wrinkles as well as skin firmness in 8 weeks. These results continued to build and were also measured again at the 12 week mark, where subjects showed even more progress.

    Revision Nectifirm Advanced Review

RevisionNectifirm Advanced line offers three different formulations in order to specifically target lose or wrinkled skin around the neck and decollete. This luxury skincare brand caters mostly to those who are looking for a more intense regimen to specifically target the neck area. They feature an impressive list of active ingredients including a range of peptides, algae extracts, ceramides, bamboo, english pea extract and glucosamine HCI, dihydromyricetin and vitamins C & E. But what do all of these ingredients actually do for the skin? Starting with peptides, these ingredients help to boost collagen and elastin production in the skin, which slows down as we age. Ceramides on the other hand are an essential part of a healthy and happy skin barrier, that makes sure that your skin remains hydrated and plump. Finally, Bamboo, English Pea Extract & Glucosamine HCI all work together to smooth skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, deep lines and wrinkles.
