L’Occitane - The Dermatology Review

Skin Care Reviews

Pronounced “lox-ee-tahn” for those who have been wondering, L’Occitane is a natural beauty and skin care brand, founded in Provence, France and made with only the finest most delicate ingredients. What started out as a simple oil sold in the Provence markets has now grown into a globally recognized beauty brand.

The History of L’Occitane

L’Occitane was founded by Oliver Baussan when he was only 23 years old. Before the brand was officially launched as L’Occitane, Baussan began distilling rosemary oil and selling it at local markets. After mastering a traditional soap-making art, L’Occitane was born in 1976. Over the next 40 years, the L’Occitane brand experienced steady and consistent growth with a host of milestones along the way. Just a year after L’Occitane was established, the brand harvested lavender which became the official symbol of Provence and the cornerstone of many of L’Occitane’s premiere products. A breakthrough in the L’Occitane products occurred after Baussan discovered shea butter, harvested by women in Burkina Faso, Africa. Utilizing the supreme nourishing properties, L’Occitane soon began infusing shea butter into many of its products and remains a staple ingredient of the L’Occitane product line today.

As the L’Occitane product line was perfected, the brand began to achieve international recognition. While the very first official L’Occitane boutique was established in Volx, Provence, today more than 2,000 locations exist around the world. Today, L’Occitane remains a pioneer in natural and sustainable beauty with noteworthy achievements including being one of the first brands to feature braille packaging, partnering with organizations to support those affected by blindness, creating sustainable packaging options, and working for the economic emancipation of women.

I am a qualified beauty therapist, and bought the product without reading up on the ingredients. Whilst no doubt it feels lovely on the skin, and have only used it for 2 days now, I am very disappointed to read the long list of chemical ingredients, which over shadow the list of natural ones. Needless to say, I will NOT purchase or recommend this product, purely because of the additives.
