Balance of Nature Reviews: Are These Fruit and Vegetable Supplements Worth The Cost?

SKIN CARE REVIEWS

01.19.24DISCLAIMER

Since childhood we’ve heard to “eat your fruits and vegetables” in order to remain healthy and strong. But, the truth is, most people are not eating enough fruits and vegetables as part of their diet — in fact, only 1 in 10 adults consume the recommended amount, according to the CDC

That’s where supplements like Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies come into the picture. This whole food supplement contains a blend of 16 fruits and 15 vegetables in capsule form. The idea is to provide you with an easy way to get the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients of the fruits and vegetables in order to support your health and well-being.

But is Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies worth the hefty price tag? What are the benefits of taking this supplement? Are there any side effects to look out for?

We’ll answer these questions and more in our Balance of Nature review. Plus, we’ll share some Balance of Nature reviews from real customers so that you can get their feedback on how well these products perform.

What Are The Balance of Nature Ingredients?

Balance of Nature currently offers two products: Fruits and Veggies (come together) and the Fiber & Spice supplement. Let’s get into the details of each one.

Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies

Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies is a capsule supplement filled with 16 fruits and 15 vegetables in a freeze-dried powder form.

It’s great that the brand uses a vacuum-cold process in order to preserve the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients of the fruits and vegetables. Additionally, we appreciate the fact that there’s no added fillers, synthetics, or sugars. The only ingredients are whole fruits and vegetables!

The fruits inside this supplement include aloe vera, apple, banana, blueberry, cherry, cranberry, grape, grapefruit, lemon,  mango, orange, papaya, pineapple, raspberry, strawberry, and tomato.

While each of these fruits has unique constituents, they are all rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help the body by neutralizing harmful free radicals and protecting cells from damage. Therefore, these antioxidants support overall health, immune function, and potentially reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Overally, we approve of the fruits used in Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies.

Now onto the vegetables. Inside this formula you’ll find broccoli, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, cayenne pepper, celery Stalk, garlic, kale, onion, shiitake mushroom, soybean, spinach, sweet potato, wheatgrass, and zucchini.

Some of these vegetables are better than others.

For example, raw carrots contain an indigestible fiber that is very protective for the intestine, according to Dr. Ray Peat, PhD.

Dr. Peat states, “These fibers prevent the reabsorption of estrogen in the intestine, and can shift the balance away from cortisol and estrogen, toward progesterone and thyroid, in just a few days of regular use.”

Then, there’s some vegetables inside this Balance of Nature supplement that we’re concerned with, such as spinach, kale, and broccoli.

It’s true that greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli contain nutrients such as vitamins, phenolic acids, carotenoids, and flavonoids.

However, most people aren’t aware that these vegetables also contain anti-nutrients.

For instance, spinach and kale contain oxalates, which can bind to minerals like calcium in the kidneys and form calcium oxalate kidney stones – the most common type of kidney stone.

Broccoli contains glucosinolates and goitrogens. These antinutrients can prevent the absorption of iodine, which may then interfere with thyroid function and cause goiter.

We’re bringing this to your attention because most people in the health industry view these vegetables as superfoods, ignoring the fact that they contain these anti-nutrients.

This certainly doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat vegetables. Actually, cooking vegetables significantly reduces their anti-nutrient content.

For example, an article by Washington College explains, “Oxalates are water soluble and can be reduced by boiling spinach and discarding the cooking water.”

However, the vegetables inside Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies are not cooked, so this is something to keep in mind if you’re going to take the supplement.

Balance of Nature Fiber and Spice

The Fiber and Spice supplement is a fiber drink with whole psyllium husk, whole apple, flax seed, and a blend of 12 spices.

Increasing your fiber intake can promote digestive health, support regular bowel movements, and contribute to lower cholesterol levels.

Fiber adds bulk to stool, helping to prevent constipation and promoting regular bowel movements. This supports the overall health of the digestive system.

In addition, due to the high dietary fiber amount, Balance of Nature Fiber and Spice may help you to feel more satiated, control food intake, and manage weight.

For example, one study showed sustained weight loss of an average of 3.3 kg in the treatment group supplementing their diet with 3.5 grams psyllium husk twice a day before breakfast and dinner.

The spices inside of the Balance of Nature Fiber and Spice supplement include allspice, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, coriander, cumin, fennel seed, fenugreek, ginger, mustard seed, nutmeg, and turmeric.

Not only do these spices provide an array of phytonutrients, many of them have been studied for their ability to increase metabolism.

For example, a pilot study featured in the journal Metabolism found that incorporating ginger into the diet increased thermogenesis and diminished feelings of hunger.

Additionally, a 2023 publication in the journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine elaborates on how “Ginger and turmeric influence energy metabolism through mechanisms associated with thermal effect, basal metabolic rate (BMR), total energy expenditure, oxygen consumption, and lipid oxidation.”

What Are The Benefits of Balance of Nature?

After reviewing all of the ingredients in the Balance of Nature supplements, we’ve summarized the main benefits that you may notice below:

More Energy

Based on the Balance of Nature reviews we read, many people noticed an increase in their energy levels from taking the supplement, most likely from the intake of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in the formula.

Immune System Boost

As we mentioned above, many of the fruits inside Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies are rich in antioxidants, particularly vitamin C. Vitamin C is crucial for the production and function of white blood cells, key components of the immune system. Therefore, this  Balance of Nature supplement may help to give your immune system a boost.

Better Gut Health

Consuming enough fiber is an excellent way to promote regular bowel movements, feed beneficial gut bacteria, and prevent constipation.

Most people don’t get enough fiber in their diet, so consuming Balance of Nature Fiber and Spice is one way to increase your fiber intake and, therefore, promote better gut health.

Weight Loss

Balance of Nature Fiber and Spice may potentially promote weight loss due to the combination of fiber that helps you to feel satiated, as well as spices that increase the metabolism.

Improved Cardiovascular Health

A 2019 systematic review published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine assessed the effect of fruits and vegetables concentrate supplementation on select parameters that are known to be risk factors for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

The results suggest that supplementation with encapsulated fruit and vegetables would result in a reduction of the burden of cardiovascular disease CVDs, especially of coronary heart disease (CHD) cases and of related direct costs.

What Are The Side Effects of Balance of Nature?

As with any dietary supplement, there’s always the potential to experience side effects. We’d say a customer would be more likely to notice side effects with the Fiber and Spice supplement, and not so much with the Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggies supplement.

The reason the fiber and spice supplement is more likely to cause side effects is based on how fiber works: increasing the stool bulk may cause bloating, gas, or mild abdominal discomfort in some individuals.
