Vichy Skin Care was created in 1931 by Dr. Haller, medical director of the thermal treatment center in Vichy, France, after he discovered the therapeutic benefits of Vichy Thermal Water. Originating more than 2,000 years ago in the heart of Auvergne’s volcanoes, the thermal water was found to improve skin quality, soothe sensitivity, and accelerate the healing of skin wounds. Today, Vichy Thermal Water is still sourced from the same location in France, and is at the core of all Vichy Skin Care formulations.

What’s Inside Vichy Skin Care?

As we mentioned above, Vichy Skin Care was inspired by the skin healing benefits of Vichy Thermal Water, which can be found in all of the brand’s products. We know what you may be thinking: what’s so special about this water? Let’s take a closer look at what sets Vichy Thermal Water apart from just plain ole H2O.

Vichy Thermal Water
Vichy Thermal Water is unique due to its 15 essential minerals, including iron, potassium, calcium, and manganese. These minerals are gathered as rainwater passes through the magmatic volcanic rock, over 4,000 meters under the earth’s surface. The mineralizing water has been shown to soothe the skin, rebalance pH, and protect against external aggressors like pollutants and weather.

Vitamin C
Another key ingredient used throughout the Vichy skincare line is vitamin C, one of the best anti-aging ingredients. It’s a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin.

Vitamin C also helps fade dark spots, evens out skin tone, and increases radiance. As if that wasn’t enough, research suggests that when vitamin C is applied to the skin, it significantly reverses aging-related structural changes by influencing collagen and elastin synthesis.

Vichy LiftActiv Vitamin C Serum contains 15% L-ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C).

But our favorite Vitamin C serum is Carrot & Stick The Defence Serum. It contains 3 distinct types of Vitamin C that work together to help fight free radical damage. We recommend using it every morning.

Peptides
As you age, your body’s production of collagen and elastin slows down. These two proteins are responsible for your skin’s structural support. As a result, the skin loses its natural plumpness and smoothness.

While collagen is necessary for maintaining youthful-looking skin, the collagen protein is too large to absorb into the skin topically. That’s why applying skin care products that contain collagen won’t provide the anti-aging benefits you’re looking for.

This is where peptides come into action. Peptides are the building blocks of protein, and they are easily absorbed into the deeper layers of skin due to their smaller size.

Vichy LiftActiv Peptide-C Brightening Moisturizer contains phyto peptides derived from green peas that are said to help visibly firm skin’s appearance.

If you’re looking for a peptide serum, we recommend Carrot & Stick The Repair Serum. It contains 7 plant-based peptides to promote plumper and smoother-looking skin.

Retinol
Retinol is the go-to anti-aging ingredient recommended by dermatologists and skin experts. It’s clinically proven to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve uneven skin tone, restore skin firmness, and shrink the appearance of enlarged pores.

The only downside? Retinol can often lead to side effects like skin dryness, peeling, and irritation.

It’s in LiftActiv Retinol H.A. Concentrate.

Use retinoids at night. We recommend this retinoid oil serum. It contains Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, an ingredient that provides similar benefits with less irritation.

I have been using Vichy skincare for a number of years. I absolutely love the nighttime spa mask. In the morning my skin is refreshed and looks well rested.
I would recommend this skincare for sensitive skin however the rich cream has too much alcohol in for my skin

  • BadWaitress Original review: Sep 12, 2019. Reply

This cream is unusable because it is so highly perfumed. I am willing, if a product’s ingredients are good enough, to overlook a certain amount of scent upon initial application, provided it doesn’t irritate my skin, the scent is mild, and it disperses quickly. Vichy Liftactiv Peptide C meets none of these criteria. There isn’t a single impressive ingredient in this formula, just a lot of ‘cones and a terrible smell.

I am in love with all of Vichy products. I am almost 50 and I have sun spots, lines, and I used to have some sagging around my checks. But since I started and faithfully been using my products night and day I am very happy with the results.

    Vichy LiftActiv

What is Vichy LiftActiv?  Vichy Skin Care is known for their skin-soothing products that are formulated with thermal water derived from French volcanoes, but did you know this brand also offers anti-aging skin care products? One of the brand’s most popular anti-aging skin care lines is called Vichy LiftActiv, which...

    Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water Review

Thermal Waters have been an emerging trend in the industry for the past several years, but for many of us, it can be difficult to understand exactly what a fine mist of water can offer in terms of skincare benefits. So what are thermal waters, and why have they become so popular? Thermal waters are particularly popular in french pharmacy skincare brands like Vichy. The Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water features an extremely fine mist that coats the skin with a refreshing, lightweight layer of hydration. The formula behind the Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water soothes the skin with a powerful dose of antioxidants and 15 rare minerals which help to soothe the skin, reinforce essential skin processes, fortify the skin and protect the surface against environmental aggressors like stress, UV rays or pollution. These essential nutrients may not be as flashy as active ingredients or chemical exfoliants, but they are necessary for maintaining healthy, balanced and well-hydrated skin.

    INGREDIENTS

Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Serum Review

Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Serum combines 15% pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid in a formula that is said to brighten and firm the skin in as little as 10 days. Vitamin C provides several benefits to the skin, such as protecting against free radicals, stimulating collagen production, fading dark spots, and improving uneven skin tone. While ascorbic acid is the most chemically active form of vitamin C, it is also the least stable form, which means that it oxidizes the easiest. When ascorbic acid becomes oxidized it loses its potency and ultimately becomes ineffective.

The Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Serum also contains hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, a low molecular weight version of hyaluronic acid. Hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid will help to attract moisture to the skin, resulting in smoother, softer skin with decreased wrinkles and a more plump appearance. Of note, the Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Serum lists alcohol denat as the third highest concentration ingredient in this formula. Alcohol denat is an abbreviation for denatured alcohol, which functions as an astringent and solvent in cosmetic products. When high concentrations of denatured alcohol are used in a formulation, this ingredient can cause drying and irritation. In fact, this serum contains more denatured alcohol than hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, which may defeat the purpose of even using hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid.

    Vichy Normaderm Review

For those who are looking for an anti-acne moisturizer, you may want to check out the Vichy Normaderm Beautifying Anti-Acne Care Moisturizer. Like many moisturizers for break out prone skin, this product contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is an oil-soluble BHA or beta hydroxy acid that is capable of going deep into the pores to clear out dirt, debri and excess sebum that can contribute to acne. Salicylic acid is also the number one ingredient recommended for those who struggle with blackheads in particular. This moisturizer is targeted at those with oily skin, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to dry you out. This moisturizer contains Vichy’s unique Airlicium Resorcinol technology to leave the skin feeling hydrated and radiant all day.

Vichy Aqualia Thermald Dynamic Hydration Power Serum Review

If you’re looking for a more moisturizing serum, the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Power Serum may be an excellent option for your skincare routine. Unlike other hydrating serums on the market, this product contains all three essential ingredients that moisturize the skin, including humectants, emollients and occlusives. The main humectants in this formula include hyaluronic acid and glycerin, both of which work to draw water to the skin in order to hydrate the surface level. In addition, this product uses castor oil as an emollient, and dimethicone as an occlusive. Because of this combination of ingredients, this product could also double as a very lightweight moisturizer for those of you who have very oily skin or have difficulty incorporating a moisturizer into your skincare routine.

    Vichy Liftactiv Eyes Review

The Vichy LiftActiv Eyes is was specifically designed to work well with the most fragile and sensitive skin under the eyes. This french pharmacy brand is known if their effective, elegant formulations and the LiftActiv Eyes serum is no different. The formula behind this eye cream includes key ingredients like the mineralizing water that Vichy is known for, as well rhamnose and caffeine. The mineralizing water helps to strengthen and reinforce the skin’s natural moisture barrier, while rhamnose acts as a plant-derived skin structure booster. While main eye creams focus on the correction, this product aims to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier and improve your overall skin health first, From here, the other actives that are central to this formula are able to work even been and any type of irritation is significantly minimized. Because of this, we’d recommend this particular product is ideal for those with sensitive or damaged skin that is in need of a bit of extra care.

    Vichy Mineral 89 Review

Vichy Mineral 89 Daily Skin Booster Serum and Moisturizer is a lightweight, oil-free, fragrance-free face moisturizer that is said to provide 24-hour hydration while protecting skin against environmental aggressors that can stress and fatigue its appearance. This moisturizer contains 89% Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water sourced from the heart of French volcanoes. Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water provides skin with 15 essential minerals that strengthen the skin barrier and make it more resistant to visible aging caused by exposome factors such as pollution, stress to skin, and fatigue.

Another key ingredient in the Vichy Mineral 89 Daily Skin Booster Serum and Moisturizer is sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid. Sodium hyaluronate is an exceptional ingredient for adding hydration to the skin. In fact, sodium hyaluronate is able to hold more water than any other natural substance—up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This is possible because sodium hyaluronate is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG), a long polysaccharide (sugar molecule) composed of disaccharides called amino sugars and uronic acid. GAGs are negatively charged and thus tend to attract positively charged sodium and potassium ions. In turn, this causes the GAGs to absorb and hold a large amount of water. Sodium hyaluronate also helps to plump skin and reduce signs of aging by decreasing epidermal water loss associated with sun exposure, low humidity, and other external factors associated with skin dryness.
