- Truskin Naturals Vitamin C
When it comes to finding the right serum, Vitamin C can present a bit of a challenge. The ingredient itself requires a sophisticated formula in order to maintain its efficacy and deliver results. So how to do you know if you’re using the right product? TruSkin Naturals was originally created to solve this problem, by introducing a simple, yet effective organic vitamin C serum.
Since then, the serum itself has become incredibly popular on Amazon, and the brand has released an entire range to compliment this popular active. To get a fuller picture of the brand, we’re walking you through their philosophy, stand out serums, formulas and customer reviews to give you an idea of what this company has to offer.
About the Brand
TruSkin Naturals started out as a singular Vitamin C serum on Amazon. Fast forward a few years, and that same serum has over 8,000 reviews and an entire skin care line behind it. Today, TruSkin Naturals offers everything from cleansers to treatments, toners and of course, serums. Additionally, this brand has designed their products to be available in multiple formulas for maximum versatility. Overall, the brands central goal is to deliver cost effective, powerful ingredients in multi-purpose formulas that can work for any skin concern or lifestyle.
Stand Out Serums
Today, there are six different serums, and several of which are offered in multiple formats. Their complete line offers something for every step of your skincare routine, packed with active ingredients. Of the entire line, the heavy hitters include:
The Original Vitamin C Serum
We’d be remiss if we didn’t talk about the serum that started it all. This is the serum that the brand has become most known for. As we mentioned earlier, this single product has received over 8,000 reviews, and still has a rating of 4.4 out of 5. This organic Vitamin C serum has 20% Vitamin C, along with Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid. The combination of ingredients has been shown to do everything from heal blemishes to diminishing the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots, making it a great vitamin C serum for acne as well as skin texture.
Vitamin C-plus Super Serum
Consider this serum to be Vitamin C 2.0. This serum includes a ton of incredible active ingredients including Retinol, BHA’s, Hyaluronic Acid and of course, Vitamin C. Instead of applying three or four different serums in order to incorporate the main actives into your regime, this product makes a great all-in-one.
Hyaluronic Acid Serum
For an extra boost of hydration, especially during the dry, winter months, hyaluronic acid is the way to go. Within the Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Vitamins C and E work with jojoba oil and aloe to boost the moisturizing and hydrating properties of Hyaluronic acid. This particular active draws water to the skin, and is able to hold up to 1,000 it’s weight. As the acid pulls in moisture to the surface of your skin, Vitamin E and jojoba oil seal in hydration so your skin stays moisturized throughout the day.
ALTERNATIVE: If you are concerned about aging skin and looking for professional grade products that are also clean, Carrot & Stick The Repair Serum. It contains a peptide complex to target multiple signs of aging as well as hyaluronic acid.
Inside the Actives
With each of these serums, there are several actives and special ingredients that help to make these products as effective and nourishing as possible. Some of the most common ingredients in this range include:
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
This is actually the official term for a predominant vitamin C ester. There are actually up to six different chemical compounds that aim to mimic the effects of Vitamin C on the skin. Straight Ascorbic Acid, otherwise known as the purest form of Vitamin C can be highly unstable, difficult to work with and can cause quite a bit of irritation if not formatted correctly. In order to remove that worry, TruSkin Naturals uses Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate in all of their products that contain Vitamin C. This way you can get most of the benefits of traditional Vitamin C, without the sensitivity or possible oxidation.
With that said, there are some instances where traditional Vitamin C, or Ascorbic Acid, is preferred. This is particularly the case with anti-aging skincare, as there has been little research to prove that this derivative is capable of penetrating the skin that deeply.
Our favorite Vitamin C serum is Carrot & Stick The Defence Serum. It contains 3 distinct types of Vitamin C that work together to help fight free radical damage.
Jojoba Oil
This is an exceptional oil, especially for usage in skincare. This particular oil has the closest chemical composition to that of the natural oils and sebum found on our skin, so it won’t clog pores or cause irritation. Additionally, it is a powerful moisturizer that helps to seal in hydration, so it can be used with most actives to calm the skin. This particular ingredient is present in almost every product that TruSkin Naturals has to offer, and its effects can be seen in all of the products in this line. If you have acne prone, oily or sensitive skin, this particular oil is beneficial for keeping your skin soothed and calm, even when actives are present.
Retinol
No other ingredient has been touted as an age-defying miracle more than retinol, also known as Vitamin A. This active is frequently used in anti-aging as well as acne fighting serums. With that said, unfortunately in more traditional formulas, this does come with a few negatives. Without more complex formulations to surround this active, users can expect retinol-based products to cause miror irritation for the first month. This can result in dryness and peeling, before the skin fully adjusts to the active ingredient. But, unlike the retinol products of years past, the formula behind the TruSkin Naturals Retinol Serum is sophisticated enough to eliminate sensitivity, so you can reap the benefits of this active as soon as possible. You should still patch test this product before incorporating it into your daily routine, as it can still be sensitizing with consistent application on in the presence of too many additional actives.
The only downside of retinol is that it can often lead to side effects like skin dryness, peeling, and irritation.
That’s why we recommend this Carrot & Stick The Retinoid Oil. It contains Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, an ingredient that provides similar benefits with less irritation.
What Are The Best Alternatives?
If you’re looking for skincare products to address the signs of aging, we recommend Carrot & Stick. Carrot & Stick maximizes the use of powerful ingredients and minimizes the use of superficial ones, resulting in advanced skincare solutions that help promote healthy, more youthful-looking skin. We recommend the Day & Night Routine.
Connie Original review: Dec 23, 2018.
I purchased the TruSkin vitamin serum. It seems to be drying out my skin and wanted to know if that is to be expected for a while or if it is not for me. I am using it as an anti-aging as I am 74. Please let me know. Thanks
