The story behind Youtheory

Youtheory is a supplement company founded in 2010 by Darren and Patty Rude, and was one of the original collagen supplement brands. Today, Youtheory is one of the largest manufacturers of collagen and turmeric in the United States. In addition to collagen and turmeric, Youtheory sells a variety of supplements intended to support a healthy lifestyle, such as probiotics, ashwagandha, magnesium, hyaluronic acid, maca root, and an entire line of supplements specifically formulated for men. In this review, we’ll discuss Youtheory Collagen ingredients, where Youtheory products are sold, Youtheory Collagen reviews from real customers, and an alternative for you to consider.

What is Youtheory Collagen?

Youtheory Collagen is an oral supplement that is designed to replenish lost collagen in the body and thereby support healthy joints, tendons, skin, hair, and nails. It is also said to deliver intensive nourishment to help counter the effects of the aging process and support factors important to health and beauty. Youtheory Collagen is available in several different dosage forms, including tablets, powders, packets, liquid collagen, and a collagen protein shake.

What are the key ingredients in Youtheory Collagen?

As you can probably guess, the key ingredient in Youtheory Collagen is collagen. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, making up approximately 25% to 35% of the whole body protein content. All collagen contains 19 different amino acids, with a particularly high content of hydroxyproline, glycine, and proline.

Collagen is a major component of connective tissues that make up several body parts, including tendons, ligaments, muscles, and skin. Collagen is responsible for keeping the skin strong and firm, and also plays an important role in wound healing. It can be found in the skin’s extracellular matrix (ECM), along with other important proteins like elastin. Collagen works together with elastin, which provides bounce and allows skin to return back to normal when moved.

The body produces less and less collagen with age. In fact, after the age of 20, a person produces about 1 percent less collagen in the skin each year. Moreover, environmental free radicals (from things like excessive sunlight exposure, smoking,  pollution, etc.) can degrade collagen proteins. The result is skin that becomes thinner and more fragile with age.

Replenishing levels of collagen in the skin has the potential to provide numerous benefits, such as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, firming skin, and promoting a more plump complexion. Collagen helps your skin cells keep renewing and repairing normally. Lastly, collagen may help with cellulite and stretch marks, and also as the ability to improve skin hydration.

Youtheory Collagen provides 6,000 mg of hydrolyzed collagen in each serving. Hydrolyzed collagen is used because the body cannot absorb collagen in whole form since it is a very large and complex protein. Therefore, to increase collagen’s bioavailability, supplement manufacturers use hydrolyzed collagen. This simply means that collagen’s long amino acid chains are broken down via a chemical or enzymatic process into peptides consisting of just two or three amino acids together. These peptides are then easily absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract.

Youtheory also includes vitamin C (as calcium ascorbate) in their collagen supplements because vitamin C serves as a cofactor for two enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of collagen.

Where are Youtheory products sold?

Youtheory is sold online and in 60,000+ retailers worldwide, including Canada, China, Dubai, France, Iceland, Japan, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States. Although you can learn about Youtheory Collagen at the company website, the supplement is not available for purchase on the website. However, there is a store locator that offers links to both online and physical retailers that include major skin care and health and beauty retailers, drugstore chains, and some supermarket retailers. A few of the physical locations where Youtheory products are sold include GNC, The Vitamin Shoppe, Whole Foods, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Walmart, and more. While the website offers these links, it does not give direct links to the products themselves or display prices. As a result, comparison shopping for Youtheory Collagen in order to get the best possible price may take a bit of online and in-store browsing.

What is the Youtheory return policy?

Since Youtheory does not sell their products directly to consumers, the company does not have a return policy. If you wish to return a Youtheory product, you will have to find the return policy of the retailer where you purchased the product.

Youtheory Collagen reviews

Youtheory does not display customer reviews on their website. However, looking at Youtheory Collagen reviews on third party websites, we’ve noticed a mix of positive and negative reviews. Some customers swear by these supplements and their ability to improve the appearance of skin, hair, and nails. For example, one Youtheory Collagen review states, “I’ve taken this for over 7 years and my hair and nails skin and body has stayed younger than my actual age. This is the best product ever to keep you firm and looking young.”

Negative Youtheory Collagen reviews are primarily focused on the dosage forms of these supplements. For example, several customers have complained about having to take six tablets as one serving with the Youtheory Collagen tablets. In addition, several consumers find the taste of the Youtheory Collagen powders to be unappealing.

What are some alternatives to Youtheory Collagen?

While there are many potential benefits of using a supplement like Youtheory Collagen, there’s one problem that arises with this product and all oral collagen supplements: it’s impossible to determine in advance where collagen will be used in the body. Furthermore, the collagen peptides may not be used to produce collagen at all (collagen can also be used for the synthesis of other proteins). This is problematic because you most likely want to take a collagen supplement to achieve a specific benefit, such as more youthful skin or stronger nails. But we have to remember that the human body is smart and has a way of prioritizing. For example, if the body needs protein for wound healing, that will take precedence over any beauty benefits.

Therefore, the best way to increase collagen in the skin is to use high-quality skin care products formulated with ingredients that are known to penetrate the upper layers of skin and increase collagen production in the dermis. We believe the best product to accomplish this is Formulyst Pro-Collagen Serum. This lightweight, restorative serum is specifically formulated for aging skin that has experienced a loss of collagen.

Formulyst’s Pro-Collagen Serum contains a highly concentrated mix of peptides and proteins, derived from seaweed, wheat, and soy, to help tackle numerous signs of aging. For instance, this serum contains Pseudoalteromonas ferment extract, which is produced by the fermentation of a marine bacteria living in the cold Antarctic Ocean. During growth, the bacteria produce an extracellular material, an exopolymer of glycoproteins believed to help the bacteria retain water, adhere to surfaces, and withstand the extreme cold. Its protective function in nature is now being used to regenerate and protect the skin. Pseudoalteromonas ferment extract is known to stimulate the synthesis of type I and IV collagen and elastin, which may help to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Another ingredient in Formulyst’s Pro-Collagen Serum that may help boost collagen levels in skin is tripeptide-1. Tripeptide-1 is categorized as a messenger peptide because it works by sending messages or signals to cells. Cells have the ability to communicate with each other to coordinate certain actions, which is known as cell-signaling. For instance, when collagen is degraded it produces peptides that signal skin cells to generate more collagen. Synthetic peptides like tripeptide-1 can mimic these naturally occurring peptides, thus causing your skin to “think” collagen is deteriorating. This results in new collagen production. Over time, increased collagen levels promotes firmer skin with less fine lines and wrinkles.
