Wellbel Women
This daily supplement is formulated specifically for women to nourish thinning hair, promote healthy hair growth, and support the skin and nails, too.
The formula contains vitamin A (as retinyl palmitate), vitamin D (as cholecalciferol), selenium, and B vitamins like folate, vitamin B12, and biotin.
There’s also a proprietary blend that includes MSM, horsetail powder, saw palmetto, stinging nettle leaf, PABA, and betaine. We’ll give you details on these ingredients in the Key Ingredients section below.
Wellbel Women+
Specifically formulated for women 45 and older, this formula is said to provide age-related support for hormonal changes and increases production of proteins to promote healthy hair, skin and nails through and beyond menopause.
The main formulation difference is that the Wellbel Women+ supplement contains the minerals zinc and copper, whereas the other Wellbel Women supplement does not. Additionally, the proprietary blend in Wellbel Women+ is slightly different, including bamboo extract and lycopene (ingredients not found in the original Wellbel Women supplement).
Wellbel Men
Wellbel Men is a daily supplement that contains vitamins, minerals, and botanical extracts that help optimize the appearance and overall health of your hair.
What’s strange is that this supplement contains the exact same formula as Wellbel Women+. All ingredients and dosages are identical, lacking any distinguishing features for the men’s formula.
What Are The Wellbel Ingredients?
While there’s different ingredients used in each of the Wellbel hair supplements, below we’ll share some of the key ingredients that the brand uses in all three products.
Saw Palmetto
Saw Palmetto is included in the Wellbel hair supplements because it is able to block the effects of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss in some cases. DHT is known to miniaturize hair follicles and shorten the hair growth cycle. Saw Palmetto, when applied topically or included in hair supplements, has been proposed to counteract these effects.
A 2020 medical review found that saw palmetto extract (in either topical or oral formulations) may have a role in the treatment of hair loss disorders such as androgenetic alopecia or telogen effluvium, demonstrating modest improvement in hair regrowth.
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)
MSM is a rich source of sulfur (34% by weight), a key component of collagen that supports the skin’s structural framework. Sulfur is also a building block of keratin, the chief structural constituent of hair and nails.
A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial published in Natural Medicine Journal randomized 20 female participants to receive either 3 g per day of MSM or placebo over 16 weeks. At the end of the trial, MSM supplementation showed statistically significant improvements from baseline in crow’s feet, skin firmness, tone, and texture.
MSM has also been shown in studies to support hair health. A 2023 publication in Natural Medicine Journal recruited 41 female and male subjects, aged between 19 and 60 years and presenting telogen effluvium hair loss.
At the end of the study, the authors concluded that MSM supplementation was effective in reducing hair loss and improving hair diameter and thickness.
Biotin
Biotin is included in all three Wellbel hair supplements because it is necessary to produce keratin — the type of protein that makes up hair, skin, and nails.
Wellbel hair supplements contain 500 mcg of biotin compared to 3,000-10,000 mcg typically used in other hair growth supplements. The brand’s rationale is that high doses of biotin can cause acne breakouts and rashes, however, there is limited evidence to support this.
Betaine
Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, helps to promote efficient digestion and assimilation of protein and minerals necessary for hair and nail health.
Wellbel vs Nutrafol
When comparing Wellbel hair supplements to Nutrafol, it’s clear that Nutrafol supplements have much more robust formulations. For example, Nutrafol for Women includes many of the same vitamins as Wellbel (vitamin A, vitamin D, and biotin), but also types I and III collagen, solubilized keratin, ashwagandha, curcumin, and many more ingredients.
