Skinesa Review: Is A Probiotic The Key To Clear, Healthy Skin?

SKIN CARE REVIEWS

01.17.24DISCLAIMER

Skinesa is a daily dietary supplement that’s claimed to improve the look and feel of skin in 90 days or less. The secret to this formula is using probiotics that are known to work together to promote healthier skin.

So is Skinesa Skin Probiotic formulated with ingredients that are backed by science? If so, are they used in effective doses for optimal results? Are there any side effects associated with Skinesa?

We’ll answer these questions and more in our Skinesa review. Plus, we’ll share feedback from real customers to get their take on the results of this product.

What is Skinesa?

Skinesa is the culmination of over a decade of university research, a doctor-formulated dietary supplement designed to support and enhance skin health. It’s a once daily capsule composed of probiotic strains that have been shown in two clinical trials to improve symptoms of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

What Are The Skinesa Ingredients?

As you already know, Skinesa includes probiotics as key ingredients. But what exactly are probiotics and how do they benefit your skin?

Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that support the balance of the gut microbiome, aiding in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. They can contribute to a healthy and balanced gut environment. This balance is crucial for a healthy skin barrier and overall skin function.

There’s a total of five probiotic strains in Skinesa, including:

  • Bifidobacterium longum ES1 (CECT 7347)
  • Bifidobacterium lactis BPL1 (CECT 8145)
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus (CECT 8361)
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus (CNCM I-4036)
  • Lactobacillus casei (CECT 9104)

These specific probiotics were selected because they have special characteristics that work best when combined together. After formulation, the blended probiotic strains were tested in two clinical trials.

The first clinical trial published in JAMA studied children aged 4 to 17 years old with atopic dermatitis (eczema). It was a 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled intervention trial, and the main outcomes were SCORAD index score and days of topical steroid use (SCORAD is a clinical tool used to assess the extent and severity of eczema).

The results of this trial indicated that the mixture of probiotics was effective in reducing SCORAD index and reducing the use of topical steroids in patients with moderate atopic dermatitis.

The second study, published in 2019 in the journal Acta Dermato-Venereologica, involved adults with psoriasis. The aim of this 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was to determine the efficacy and safety of a probiotic mixture in the reduction of psoriasis severity.

At 12-week follow-up, 66.7% of patients in the probiotic group and 41.9% in the placebo group showed a reduction in Psoriasis Area and Severity Index of up to 75% (p < 0.05).

Furthermore, the results of follow-up 6 months after the end of the study showed a lower risk of relapse after the intake of the probiotic mixture.

The one thing we noticed that’s missing in the Skinesa Skin Probiotic formula is prebiotics

Prebiotics are non-digestible fibers that serve as nourishment for probiotics. Including prebiotics in this formula would help the probiotics flourish and exert their positive effects.

What Are The Benefits of Skinesa?

Based on the information from the clinical trials and Skinesa reviews, the following benefits have been observed:

  • Reduced symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema)
  • Reduced need for topical steroids
  • Decrease in psoriasis symptoms

It’s important to keep in mind that Skinesa is not meant to treat or cure any disease.

The brand makes sure that customers are aware of this by posting the following statement on their website, “We don’t want to give the impression that this product treats or cures ANY disease. Therefore, we censor any mention of any diseases. In fact, This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent ANY disease.”

What Are The Side Effects of Skinesa?

The brand’s website states, “There are no known side effects based on the two successful randomized controlled clinical trials.”

We also read through Skinesa reviews and didn’t see any reviews that mentioned side effects.

How to Use Skinesa?

The brand’s website states, “We recommended taking one capsule per day with a glass of water before your morning routine. For optimal and sustained results, we suggest continuous, daily use for at least 90 days.”

Where to Buy Skinesa?

Skinesa is sold on the brand’s website (skinesa.com), as well as on Amazon

How Much is Skinesa?

On the brand’s website, Skinesa costs $59 USD for a 30-day supply.

Our Verdict

Overall, we think that Skinesa Skin Probiotic could help to promote healthier skin, but we feel that there should be more clinical trials performed in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of this product.

Pros

  • The probiotic strains in Skinesa have been shown in two clinical trials to reduce symptoms of eczema and psoriasis
  • Unlikely to cause side effects
  • Several positive Skinesa reviews
  • 90-day money back guarantee

Cons

  • Some reviews mention that the product didn’t work at all
  • Formula does not contain prebiotics

What Are Some Alternatives to Skinesa?

If you’re looking for an alternative to Skinesa, we recommend reading our Seed Probiotics Review

Seed is a brand that formulates supplements that are actually synbiotics. Synbiotics are mixtures of probiotics (helpful gut bacteria) and prebiotics (non-digestible fibers that help these bacteria grow).

In contrast to Skinesa, Seed Probiotics contains 24 scientifically-validated probiotic strains with a patented, non-fermenting prebiotic. As mentioned above, Skinesa does not contain prebiotics. Thus, Seed Probiotics could be a good alternative to Skinesa.
