What is Lumiere Eye Cream?
Lumiere Eye Cream is an anti-aging eye cream formulated by the skin care brand Neocutis, a science-based company that heavily researches the active ingredients included in their products to ensure optimal performance. Lumiere Eye Cream is said to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, crow’s feet, puffiness and under-eye darkness. It is non-comedogenic, ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested, and free of color additives and fragrances. In this review, we’ll tell you more about the key ingredients in this eye cream, how to use it, and we’ll share Lumiere Eye Cream reviews from real customers.
What Are The Key Lumiere Eye Cream Ingredients?
Now that you know what Lumiere Eye Cream is claimed to do, let’s evaluate the key Lumiere Eye Cream ingredients to determine if these claims are true.
The majority of the Lumiere Eye Cream formulation is composed of emollients and emulsifiers, such as caprylic/capric triglyceride, C12-20 acid PEG-8 ester, and cetyl alcohol. There are also high concentrations of humectants, such as glycerin and butylene glycol. Humectants have structures with several hydrophilic (water-loving) groups that hydrogen bond with water, essentially “grabbing” it and holding it on the skin. Humectants pull water from the dermis to the epidermis and stratum corneum. In addition, humectants can draw water vapor from the air to help moisturize the skin if the humidity is over 50 percent.
Neocutis points out that the Lumiere Eye Cream includes their patented ingredient PSP, which stands for Processed Skin Cell Proteins. PSP is a patented blend of nourishing proteins and polypeptides that activates human growth factors, interleukins, and other cytokines to revitalize the skin and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Growth factors work on the inside to support the building of collagen and hyaluronic acid production, resulting in improved skin firmness and fewer lines and wrinkles.
Like most eye creams, the Lumiere Eye Cream contains a decent amount of caffeine. As a natural stimulant, caffeine causes vasoconstriction (constriction of the blood vessels) when applied to the skin. This function aids in reducing the amount of blood that accumulates under the eyes (a major factor that contributes to dark circles). Additionally, vasoconstriction can firm the skin due to the removal of excess fluids and possible stimulation of the lymphatic drainage system. Thus, the inclusion of caffeine in Lumiere Eye Cream is one way this eye cream can help reduce dark circles and puffiness.
Lumiere Eye Cream may also be able to brighten the skin around the eyes thanks to tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a vitamin C derivative. Once absorbed into the skin, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is converted to ascorbic acid (the active form of vitamin C), which provides numerous benefits to the skin. Ascorbic acid exerts potent antioxidant activity. Like other antioxidants, ascorbic acid is capable of protecting the skin from free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Ascorbic acid also serves as a cofactor for two enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of collagen. According to the Indian Dermatology Online Journal, clinical studies have shown that the topical use of L-ascorbic acid increases collagen production in both young and aged human skin. By increasing the amount of collagen in the skin, signs of aging will be diminished and the skin will appear more firm. Lastly, ascorbic acid can decrease the appearance of dark spots and improve uneven skin tone through inhibition of melanin synthesis.
A final key ingredient in the Lumiere Eye Cream is bisabolol, a natural monocyclic sesquiterpene alcohol that is a major component of the essential oil derived from chamomile. Bisabolol has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and is therefore very soothing when applied to the skin. It has also been shown in studies to inhibit melanin synthesis, which should help reduce the appearance of undesirable dark spots on the skin, leading to a brighter complexion and more even skin tone.
Despite all of these beneficial ingredients found in the Lumiere Eye Cream, we think it’s important to point out that the formula does contain four different parabens. Parabens are preservatives used to extend the shelf life of a product by preventing microbial contamination. The use of parabens in cosmetics and skin care products is controversial because there is conflicting research on the potential health consequences of long term exposure to parabens. According to the EWG, parabens can act like the hormone estrogen in the body and disrupt the normal function of hormone systems affecting male and female reproductive system functioning, reproductive development, fertility, and birth outcomes.
