Skin Care Reviews

Perhaps one of the best know Japanese skin care brands in the world is Hada Labo, a label owned by Rohto Pharmaceutical Co. Although this label was launched only a little over a decade ago, its popularity has steadily grown around world, including in the United States. However, many consumers who are new to Japanese skin care have questions about how Hada Labo works and what it can achieve for the skin. Unfortunately, reviews for skin care products can be misleading because they often lack the most basic information about the reviewer, such as age, skin type, severity of wrinkles, and previous skin conditions. Therefore, when considering the purchase of Hada Labo products, it’s essential to focus on the ingredients in specific products and consult a skin care professional about the best ways to use these items.

What are the Best Skin Care Products of 2020?

How Hada Labo Products Work

The cornerstone ingredient of Hada Labo products is hyaluronic acid. This moisture-loving molecule exists in our bodies naturally, and is prized for its ability to attract moisture to the application site. In fact, it is so powerful that it can attract up to 1,000 times its weight in moisture.

However, Hada Labo claims to go a step further, and formulates its own versions of hyaluronic acid compounds, by combining several types of molecules together. The goal of this process is to increase the ability of their products to attract moisture, though official studies on the effectiveness of this process are not fully conclusive.

By focusing on bringing hydration to the skin, Hada Labo aims to attack one of the more common causes of aging; skin damage due to lack of moisture.

Hada Labo Ingredients

Although the main ingredient is Hada Labo products, hyaluronic acid, is generally believed to be a safe chemical and is used by many skin care brands, it is not the only chemical in the company’s products. Therefore, it’s essential to carefully examine the full list of ingredient for any items you are considering, to reduce chances of serious side effects. As an example, ingredients for several products are discussed below.

  • Age Correcting Eye Cream:  In addition to the hyaluronic acid formulation, this Hada Labo cream has ingredients such as glycerin, to moisturize the skin; butylene glycol, to help active ingredients penetrate the skin more deeply; caffeine, to shrink broken blood vessels and address undereye bags; and capric triglyceride, a moisturizer.
  • Replenishing Hydrator:  This Hada Labo product is formulated around Super Hyaluronic Acid, which is the company’s proprietary blend of 3 types of this acid. Other ingredients include citric acid, to give the cream a more favorable pH and heal the skin with antioxidants; hydroxyethylcellulose, a preservative; and dipropylene glycol, to increase ingredient penetration.
  • Hydrating Facial Cleanser:  This product includes ingredients like sodium cocoyl glycinate, a skin cleanser; disodium EDTA, to boost ingredient penetration; and lauric acid, to moisturize. Hada Labo also claims that this cleanser has specially-formulated hyaluronic acid molecules that stick to the skin and provide moisture even after the cleanser has been washed off.

Where to Buy Hada Labo Products

Those looking for where to buy Hada Labo products don’t have to go all the way to Japan – though such a trip would be a great excuse for a vacation. “Hey honey, I’m just going to the store to get some face cream…I’ll be back in a couple of weeks.”

Fortunately, Hada Labo distributes its products at many online venues and physical retailers around the United States. Those who enjoy shopping online can find the company’s products on websites like Amazon.com and Target.com. In addition, Hada Labo’s U.S. subsidiary, Mentholatum (the manufacturer of OXY acne skin care) also sells the company’s lineup on its website.

For those who prefer shopping in department stores, the product line is available in stores like CVS, Walgreens, and ULTA, among others.

Cost of Hada Labo Products

Hada Labo products are generally affordable for the median skin care budget, but may be a bit pricey for those with limited finances. For example, the Age Correcting Eye Cream runs at $22 for half an ounce, and the Replenishing Hydrator costs $18 for 1.7 ounces. However, some products are quite cheap, with the Hada Labo Hydrating Facial Cleanser priced at only $12 for 3.5 ounces.

Hada Labo Side Reviews

Most Hada Labo reviews are quite positive, with consumers expressing satisfaction with the company’s products. Many reviewers suggested that the products in this line have significantly helped them improve their skin texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, it’s important to note that the reviews tend to vary based on product price and difficulty of use.

For example, many cheap Hada Labo creams have nearly perfect reviews, while the more expensive items exude less positivity. Further, more complicated products, like face masks, also have lower ratings – which are probably partly attributed to greater difficulty of use (it’s much easier to slather on a cream in 30 seconds than to deal with complicated steps of a face mask).

Lastly, it’s important to note that some Hada Labo reviews do suggest that the company’s products can cause side effects, like skin irritation and itching.

Hada Labo Foaming Cleanser Review

Hada Labo has been a J-Beauty fan favorite for years, especially for those who are constantly searching for budget-friendly products with top knotch formulations. One of the more popular products from this line, aside from their iconic Hyaluronic Lotion Moist is the Hada Labo Foaming Cleanser. This no-fuss cleanser features a watery texture and self-foaming pump that delivers just the right amount of foamy, bubbly cleanser. Although this product is technically a foaming cleanser, most users will agree that because of the minimal ingredients list and hydrating base, this product is much less drying than your typical foaming cleanser. With that said however, we’d still recommend this product most to those of you with normal to oil, as foaming cleansers as a whole can be less than ideal for those of you with frequently dry or dehydrated skin types. Additionally, this is also best used as a second step cleanser, as the formula itself is not ideal for makeup removal.

Hada Labo Perfect Gel Review

If you’re looking for the absolute best in multi-tasking skincare products, we may have just found your next holy grail. The Hada Labo Perfect Gel was designed to serve as 5 different skincare products, in 1 easy to use formulation. The Perfect Gel is capable of functioning as a lotion, milk, cream, serum and mask, and can be tailored to suit different skin care approaches, as well as different skin types. Like all of the Hada Labo Products Available, this lightweight gel features the brands Super Hyaluronic Acid to instantly hydrate and soothe the skin, while also delivering long lasting moisture and smoothness. It’s worth noting that there are currently two different versions of this product on the market, including a Japanese and an American formula. The main distinction to keep in mind between these two is the inclusion of urea. The original Japanese formula does include urea, while the American version does not. Urea is a mildly controversial ingredient, but most skincare experts will agree that it can be incredibly beneficial for those of you who struggle with dryness and excess dead skin cells as this safe synthetic is used for its humectant and mildly-exfoliating properties. In order to get the best use out of this product, the brand recommends applying a thin layer after cleansing with a mild, hydrating cleanser.

Hada Labo Moisturizing Cleansing Oil Review

Hada Labo Moisturizing Cleansing Oil is designed to deep clean and gently remove dirt, excessive oil, heavy makeup, and even waterproof mascara. The formula is water-soluble and does not leave an unpleasant greasy feeling behind. One of the key ingredients in this cleansing oil is high purity Olea Europaea (olive) fruit oil. Olive oil contains several types of fatty acids, such as oleic, palmitic, and linoleic acid, as well as phenolic compounds that provide antioxidant benefit. Another type of oil in this product is Simmondsia Chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, which is mostly comprised of long-chain fatty acid esters (97%), but also contains small amounts of vitamins, minerals, triglycerides, phospholipids, and tocopherols. Jojoba oil improves the skin’s barrier function, helps to prevent transepidermal water loss, and provides anti-inflammatory effects. Since oil absorbs oil, both olive oil and jojoba oil can effectively remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin, leaving it clean.

Two more important ingredients in the Hada Labo Moisturizing Cleansing Oil are sodium acetylated hyaluronate and hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate. Sodium acetylated hyaluronate, also called super hyaluronic acid, has good skin affinity and a much greater capacity to retain moisture in the epidermis than regular hyaluronic acid. Similarly, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate imparts additional adhesive capacity, which means that it will not easily be rinsed off. Both ingredients greatly improve skin hydration. Hada Labo Moisturizing Cleansing Oil is free of fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol, and colorant.

Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion Review

If you’re on the hunt for a cult classic, you may want to check out the Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion. Although hydrating toners are much more common in the Western market today, the Asian market is still highly regarded for their use of deeply hydrating, lightweight toners, where are often referred to a lotions. Unlike a Western style lotions, this product features a slightly viscous, water like texture. This lightweight product acts as the first step in your moisturizing routine by replenishing the hydration that can often be removed during cleansing. Toner like products also help to rebalance the skin’s pH after cleansing, effectively prepping the skin to better absorb the products that are applied after. This specific formula is rather minimalistic, with 3 different weights of hyaluronic acid. These different weights allow this product to target and hydrate multiple layers of the skin. Because of, we’d recommend this product to those who are looking for a hydrating product that won’t add any additional weight to your existing skincare routine.

Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion Review

If you’ve looked into Korean beauty, chances are you’ve stumbled across the Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion. This product is extremely popular, and with a quick look at the formula it’s clear to see why. While those who are more familiar with western style skin care products may consider a lotion to be a slightly runner moisturizer, in Asian markets, a lotion is more of a hydrating toner, which can be layered underneath serums and moisturizers to increase hydration. The Hada Labo Lotion takes this idea to the next level by including 5 different weights of hyaluronic acid. For a seriously soothing and hydrating formula, it’s important to have different weights of hyaluronic acid in order to target the different layers of the skin. The lower molecular weights are able to hydrate the deeper layers of the skin, while the higher molecular weights moisturize the surface. All together, this formula offers a thoroughly hydrating product that would work well for almost all skin types, including sensitive skin.

After only 2 days I can see a difference in the fine lines in my sagging face. I’m pushing 70 so I didn’t think I was going to get any results but I definitely see a difference. I can’t wait until I’ve been using it for 1 month.
