Skin Care Reviews

The story behind Good Molecules

Good Molecules was founded by a team of beauty industry veterans at Beautylish. Their philosophy is to provide skin care that works at a fair price. By working directly with labs, Good Molecules offers products that target skin issues—like acne, redness, and hyperpigmentation—without the traditional retail markup (for example, some products start at just $6). In this review, we’ll discuss a few of the brand’s best selling products, key ingredients, Good Molecules reviews from real customers, and more.

What are the best selling Good Molecules skin care products?

Good Molecules offers a variety of traditional skin care products, like serums and facial oils, as well as unique products like hydrogel eye patches and exfoliating powders. Curious about what Good Molecules products are worth trying out? Check out these top three best selling Good Molecules skin care products.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner
One of the most popular products by this brand is the Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner. This alcohol-free toner is said to promote bright, even skin and less visible pores thanks to the combination of brightening and soothing ingredients.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum
Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum is a lightweight, water-based serum that is said to help refine skin tone and texture for a brighter, healthier-looking complexion. It can be layered under your other skin care products and/or makeup, making it ideal for daily use.

Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum
The final best selling Good Molecules product we want to discuss is the Discoloration Correcting Serum. This lightweight serum is said to improve the appearance of age spots, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage.

What are the key Good Molecules ingredients?

One of the key Good Molecules ingredients is niacinamide, which can be found in all three of the best selling products we introduced above.

Niacinamide is the amide form of vitamin B3 (niacin) that provides many benefits to the skin. For instance, niacinamide is well known as a potent antioxidant. Antioxidants help the skin combat free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Niacinamide is also a precursor to the coenzymes NADH and NADPH. These coenzymes play an important role in cellular metabolism, which means they provide skin cells with the energy needed to function properly. Lastly, studies have shown that niacinamide can repair the skin barrier and improve skin moisture, as well as reduce inflammation, blotchiness, hyperpigmentation, acne, and wrinkling.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum contains 10% niacinamide, but that’s the only key ingredient in this formula. The rest of the serum consists of ingredients that help to hydrate the skin, like glycerin and betaine, and formulation enhancers.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner contains several additional ingredients to help brighten the skin, including 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, arbutin, and licorice root extract. 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid is a stable form of vitamin C that helps to brighten the skin tone, fade dark spots, and even stimulate new collagen production. Arbutin is a glycosylated hydroquinone that has the ability to inactivate tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme involved in the synthesis of melanin, the pigment that gives skin color and also contributes to the formation of undesirable dark spots. Therefore, by inhibiting tyrosinase, arbutin may be able to reduce abnormal pigmentation associated with aging and exposure to UV light. Finally, the licorice root extract in this toner can also provide skin-lightening effects thanks to the compounds liquiritin and isoliquertin, which work by decreasing melanin production.

In addition to niacinamide, Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum includes tranexamic acid to help brighten the skin tone and fade discoloration. Tranexamic acid works by inhibiting plasmin, which means that it helps to break down proteins in the skin that contribute to melanin production. Research has demonstrated that tranexamic acid at a concentration of 3% can work as well as hydroquinone, the gold standard of skin-lightening treatments. Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum should also help to increase skin hydration since it includes three forms of hyaluronic acid: sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid, and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid.

Where is Good Molecules sold?

Good Molecules skin care products are sold on the brand’s website, as well as third party retailers such as Beautylish and Amazon. They also have a featured retailer called Nuestro Secreto, which is located in Mexico City, Mexico.

Good Molecules reviews

Good Molecules reviews on the brand’s website are overall very positive, with the products receiving mostly four and five star ratings.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner reviews mention how this toner improves skin texture and brightness while also keeping the skin smooth and hydrated. For example, one review says, “I use this every morning, and have been for about a year. It really improved my skin texture – it looks smooth and healthy!”

Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum reviews are very positive, and there are many reviews from customers who experienced less oily skin and smaller pores after using this serum. One reviewer shares, “Really regulates oil production and makes your pores look smaller! I have oily acne prone skin and this worked perfectly!! 100% recommended!” There’s only one negative review for this product from a customer who experienced a reaction after using the serum.

Similar to the other Good Molecules reviews, the Discoloration Correcting Serum has received all positive comments so far (although there are only nine reviews at the moment). Most reviews share how this serum really does help to fade dark spots. For example, one review says, “I’ve spent so much money on serums for dark spots & honestly none ever work on my skin but this one in the first week of using it I saw results I have old dark spots that are finally disappearing. I fully recommend this serum.”

What are some alternatives to Good Molecules?

Overall, we like that Good Molecules formulates fragrance free, alcohol free skin care products that have high concentrations of the key ingredients. But we did notice that most Good Molecules skin care products are designed to help brighten the skin and fade hyperpigmentation. This is great, but maybe you’re looking for products that will help target other skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles. If so, we have a few alternatives for you to consider.

One serum that can help to address multiple signs of aging at once is Formulyst’s Anti-Aging Concentrate. This serum contains natural ingredients like squalane, green tea, vitamin C, and vitamin E, which provide powerful antioxidant activity to protect the skin against environmental free radicals that are known to degrade collagen. In addition, this serum contains Matrixyl 3000, a peptide complex composed of the matrikines palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7. These two peptides work synergistically to restore and maintain the skin’s youthful appearance by signaling to cells to produce more collagen. Overall, Formulyst Anti-Aging Concentrate is a multi-tasking serum that is formulated to help promote the five signs of youth – radiance, elasticity, firmness, skin tone and smoothness.

Formulyst also has a pretty unique anti-aging serum called the Ultimate Youth Concentrate. The formula combines plant cells with a concentrated combination of five unique peptides that can stimulate the production of Epidermal Growth Factors (EGF). EGF is a protein naturally found in cells called fibroblasts, which are responsible for producing collagen. It is thought that EGF signals to fibroblasts to produce more collagen, which leads to cell growth, proliferation, and wound healing. As we age, our ability to produce EGF decreases, resulting in the key signs that contribute to aging skin. Applying products that increase EGF production, such as the Formulyst Ultimate Youth Concentrate, may increase skin strength and integrity.

The philosophy of Formulyst is long-term and effective skincare, rather than covering up any imperfections. The comprehensive line of products tackles everything from wrinkles to dark spots and dry skin. While some brands rely on unnecessary fillers and scents, Formulyst focuses on ingredients that help create results, such as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.Read More

Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum Review

Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum is an anti-aging serum that is said to hydrate, brighten, and smooth for a healthy, youthful-looking glow. It can be used both in the morning and at night before oils, creams, and moisturizers. There are three peptides in this formula: acetyl hexapeptide-8, acetyl octapeptide-3, and copper tripeptide-1. Acetyl hexapeptide-8, also known as argireline, is a six amino acid peptide and is a fragment of SNAP-25 (a substrate of botulinum toxin). It works by limiting the ability of neurotransmitters to activate movement in your facial muscles, for example, when forming facial expressions such as smiling or frowning. By inhibiting the nerves that cause facial muscles to contract, subtle facial expressions are limited and wrinkles are subsequently reduced.

Acetyl octapeptide-3, also known as SNAP-8, is a synthetic peptide based around octapeptide-3, a peptide complex composed of the amino acids aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glutamine, and methionine. It works in a similar way to argireline, and helps to reduce the signs of aging formed from repetitive facial expressions. The final peptide in Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum is copper tripeptide-1, a naturally occurring copper complex of tripeptide-1. As the name indicates, tripeptide-1 is a three amino acid peptide with the amino sequence of glycine-histidine-lysine, or GHK. Copper tripeptide-1 is categorized as a messenger peptide because it works by sending messages or signals to cells, which is known as cell-signaling. For instance, when collagen is degraded it produces peptides that signal skin cells to generate more collagen. Synthetic peptides used in skin care products, such as copper tripeptide-1, can mimic these naturally occurring peptides, thus causing your skin to “think” collagen is deteriorating. This results in new collagen production. Over time, increased collagen levels promote firmer skin with less fine lines and wrinkles.
