What is Exuviance Radiance Serum?

Exuviance Radiance Serum (formerly known as Vespera Bionic Serum) is an anti-aging facial serum that is said to visibly improve seven signs of photoaging, including loss of firmness, dullness, rough texture, lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone. We know what you may be thinking: can one serum really do all of that? In order to determine whether or not the Exuviance Radiance Serum lives up to these claims, we will be evaluating the key ingredients in the next section. Plus, we’re going to cover how to use this serum, Exuviance Radiance Serum reviews from real customers, an alternative for you to consider, and more.

What are the key Exuviance Radiance Serum ingredients?

The key Exuviance Radiance Serum ingredients include mandelic acid, gluconolactone, lactobionic acid, retinyl palmitate, and vitamins C and E. Not sure exactly what these ingredients are and how they can benefit your skin? Read on to learn the benefits of these key Exuviance Radiance Serum ingredients.

Mandelic acid
Mandelic acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that improves the skin’s tone and texture through exfoliation. Specifically, AHAs exfoliate the skin by targeting corneocytes (dead skin cells that make up the top layers of skin) in a process called corneocyte desquamation. By enhancing their breakdown and increasing the separation of skin cells, the rate of cell turnover is increased, leading to smoother, brighter skin. Mandelic acid has a large molecular size compared to other AHAs, which means it penetrates the skin slowly and has a low risk of causing irritation.

Gluconolactone and Lactobionic acid
Exuviance Radiance Serum includes two additional acid ingredients, gluconolactone and lactobionic acid, which are classified as polyhydroxy acids (PHAs). PHAs are second generation hydroxy acids that are similar to AHAs but provide high-strength anti aging benefits without irritation. Therefore, PHAs are an ideal choice for sensitive skin types. Gluconolactone provides anti-aging, antioxidant, and gentle exfoliating benefits without sun sensitivity. In addition, gluconolactone strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier, thereby leaving it more resilient.

Lactobionic acid is a patented ingredient that helps to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, discoloration, enlarged pores, and roughness through gentle exfoliation. In addition, lactobionic acid is a potent antioxidant that has been shown to target naturally-occurring, skin degrading enzymes to help maintain a youthful look. Lastly, lactobionic acid is a humectant, which means it has the ability to attract moisture to the skin and hold it there to prevent dehydration.

Retinyl palmitate
Retinyl palmitate, the ester of retinol and palmitic acid, is another key anti-aging ingredient in the Exuviance Radiance Serum. After application, retinyl palmitate must first be converted to retinaldehyde, then to retinoic acid (the active form). Due to this two step conversion, retinyl palmitate typically causes less irritation than retinol and other retinoids.

Retinyl palmitate improves the appearance of skin through several mechanisms. One is through the inhibition of collagenase, which is an enzyme that breaks down collagen. By preventing collagen degradation, skin appears more firm and lines/wrinkles will be diminished. Retinyl palmitate also exfoliates the skin by causing more rapid shedding of the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin) while simultaneously increasing epidermal proliferation, which means it produces rapid skin growth. The combination of rapid regeneration of cells and exfoliation of the stratum corneum not only improves the appearance of aging skin, but also helps to peel away dark spots and blemishes. Over time these actions improve acne, soften the skin, lift dark spots and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Vitamins C and E
The final key ingredients in the Exuviance Radiance Serum formula are vitamins C and E, which are both excellent antioxidants that provide numerous benefits to the skin. As antioxidants, these vitamins help to protect the skin against free radical damage. This is important because the harmful effects of free radicals occur as direct chemical alterations of the cellular DNA, the cell membrane, and cellular proteins, including collagen. Damaged collagen manifests as signs of premature skin aging, including wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin. Plus, vitamin C not only protects collagen from free radical damage, but also stimulates the production of new collagen. Combining vitamins C and E together in the Exuviance Radiance Serum formula was a good idea since the antioxidant activity of vitamin E can actually become more powerful when combined with vitamin C. For this reason, vitamins C and E are referred to as “network antioxidants”.

How to use Exuviance Radiance Serum

Using fingertips, gently apply the Exuviance Radiance Serum to clean skin. The serum can be smoothed all over the face and neck or applied to specific areas. Gently massage any remaining excess into the skin. It is recommended to use Exuviance Radiance Serum twice daily. It can be used alone or under a moisturizer, and it’s important to follow with a broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen if applied during the day.

Where is Exuviance Radiance Serum sold?

Exuviance Radiance Serum is sold on the brand’s website, as well as several third party online retailers such as Ulta, Dermstore, Amazon, and more.

Exuviance Radiance Serum reviews

Exuviance Radiance Serum reviews on the brand’s website are mostly positive, with the product receiving an average of 4.8 out of 5 stars after about 50 customer reviews.

Positive reviews for the Exuviance Radiance Serum comment on how it provides multiple benefits to the skin, such as brightening, improving uneven skin tone, reducing redness, and  more. For example, one very positive review says, “This serum is a very nice brightening serum that I love to use at night and day. I love the feel of it and it does make my skin more plump and radiant. It absorbs quickly and my skin still feels great the next morning.”

There’s actually only one negative Exuviance Radiance Serum review at the moment, which is from a customer who didn’t see any results from using this product. Their review states, “I don’t really notice any benefits from this product and I’ve been using it daily for about a month. It doesn’t make my skin super moisturized, reduce redness/improve general appearance, or really make any difference. A little disappointed because of how expensive it is, I was expecting SOME kind of results.”

What are some alternatives to Exuviance Radiance Serum?

Overall, we think the Exuviance Radiance Serum contains several beneficial key ingredients, and we like that the brand uses high concentrations of these ingredients. However, there are a few ingredients that may be concerning to some consumers, such as methylparaben and several synthetic fragrance ingredients. If you want to avoid these potentially harmful ingredients, we have an alternative for you to consider: Formulyst

Formulyst offers high quality anti-aging skin care products that are fragrance free, cruelty free, and packed with innovative ingredients. Take Formulyst’s Retexturing and Perfecting Serum, for example. This lightweight serum provides your skin with glycolic acid, a type of AHA that is slightly stronger than mandelic acid. Glycolic acid works to gently exfoliate your skin to reveal the brighter, healthier skin beneath. Plus, there are several more brightening ingredients in this serum, such as mallow extract and rumex occidentalis extract. So Formulyst Retexturing and Perfecting Serum not only helps to improve the texture of your skin, but also helps to brighten your complexion.
