The story behind Darphin Skincare

Inspired by French women who have used rare botanicals and essential oils to enhance their beauty for centuries, kinesiotherapist Pierre Darphin founded Darphin Skincare in 1958. Not only did he formulate products with the purest, most concentrated plant essences, he combined these products with advanced kinesio massage treatments to enhance the benefits to the skin. In this review, we’ll discuss some of the brand’s best selling products, key ingredients, Darphin Skincare reviews from real customers, and more.

What are the best selling Darphin Skincare products?

Darphin Skincare offers a variety of products to treat many common skin concerns, such as sensitivity and redness, lack of hydration, lines and wrinkles, oily skin, dark circles and puffiness, and more. If you aren’t sure where to get started with this brand, check out these best selling Darphin Skincare products.

Darphin Skincare Aromatic Cleansing Balm transforms with water into a silky, non-oily, non-comedogenic milk to clean skin and remove makeup. Instead of making the skin feel tight and uncomfortable, this cleansing balm is said to help skin feel nourished and supple. Darphin Skincare Aromatic Cleansing Balm can be used both morning and night.

Darphin Skincare Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum is intended to be used by those with sensitive skin in order to reduce the appearance of redness and minimize discomforts associated with irritated skin. This serum can be used both morning and night.

Darphin Skincare Stimulskin Plus Reshaping Divine Serum was created to mimic the results of Pierre Darphin’s effectual deep massage. It is designed to help lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, loss of elasticity, and sagging. The brand does not indicate whether this is a day or night serum.

What are the key Darphin Skincare ingredients?

The key ingredients found in Darphin Skincare products include a variety of botanical extracts and essential oils. For example, one of the botanicals found in the Aromatic Cleansing Balm is jojoba seed oil. Interestingly, the chemical composition of jojoba oil mimics the skin’s natural sebum more closely than any other oil. Research has shown that jojoba oil improves the skin’s barrier function and helps to prevent transepidermal water loss. It also has proven anti-inflammatory effects and can provide soothing effects upon application. Overall, jojoba oil promotes softer, healthier, and better hydrated skin.

Some of the key ingredients in the Darphin Skincare Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum include chamomile extract, peony root extract, and hawthorn flower extract. Both chamomile extract and peony root extract provide anti-inflammatory effects, thereby calming the skin and reducing redness. Hawthorn flower extract functions as an astringent, antioxidant, and anti-irritant, thereby making this an excellent ingredient for problematic skin.

Darphin Skincare Stimulskin Plus Reshaping Divine Serum features a unique ingredient called Sea Emerald. Discovered on the Philippines sea bed, Sea Emerald is a rare plant that helps to improve skin’s cohesion in order to restore its natural bounce and firmness, and supports collagen production. Another interesting ingredient in this serum is Commiphora mukul, which is reported to possess anti-wrinkle effects in ancient Ayurvedic literature. A final key ingredient in this Darphin Skincare serum is Siegesbeckia Orientalis, also known as St. Paul’s wort, which functions as a skin-conditioning agent and also has anti-inflammatory properties. Unfortunately, there is very little research showing that St. Paul’s wort extract has any benefit for skin.

One problem with Darphin Skincare products is that they are laden with fragrance ingredients (even the products meant for sensitive skin!). We understand that consumers appreciate when products smell pleasant, however, fragrance ingredients (both natural and synthetic) are well known to cause skin irritation and damage. You see, fragrance ingredients impart scent through a volatile reaction, and this natural reaction almost always causes a sensitizing reaction on skin. Even if you don’t have a full blown reaction to the fragrance ingredients, the damage may still be occurring every day. Ultimately, this can cause mild problems for your skin in the short term and worse problems in the long term.

All Darphin Skincare products are free from parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, and formaldehyde. However, several formulations do contain artificial colorants. For example, Darphin Skincare Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum contains Red 4, Ext. Violet 2, Yellow 5, Red 33, and Blue 1.

Where is Darphin Skincare sold?

Darphin Skincare is sold on the brand’s website, as well as third party retailers such as Sephora, Nordstrom, Walmart, and more. There is a store locator on the brand’s website so you can find a store or spa near you that sells Darphin Skincare products.

What is the Darphin Skincare return policy?

The Darphin Skincare return policy states, “Our Online Customer Service Team will be happy to assist you for eligible returns, with a free return label, return instructions and the return shipping address. If you are not satisfied with your purchased and want to change it or received the item as a gift, contact us and directions will be provided. Only products purchased on darphin.com may be returned.”

Is Darphin Skincare cruelty free?

Darphin Skincare is not cruelty free. The brand does not conduct animal testing on their products or ingredients, nor ask others to test on their behalf, except when required by law (such as in mainland China).

Darphin Skincare reviews

Darphin Skincare reviews on the brand’s website are overall positive, however, there aren’t very many customer reviews. There are quite a few reviews for the Darphin Skincare Aromatic Cleansing Balm that mention this product works well for sensitive skin. For example, one reviewer comments, “I use the cleansing balm every evening and I enjoy it so much, that I actually look forward to cleaning my face. I love everything about it, from the scent, to the feel of it on my skin. I think it is a very good product for aging sensitive skin.” However, there are a couple negative reviews that mention this cleansing balm actually made skin worse over time.

The majority of the Darphin Skincare reviews for the Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum confirm that it does help to calm redness. Then again, there are a handful of reviews from customers who experienced no relief from this serum. For example, one reviewer says, “The scent was nice. However the serum is so watery that application was challenging and messy, I expected a thicker serum. For the price a thicker formula would last longer. I also did not see any redness reduction, I returned the product.”

Darphin Skincare reviews for the Stimulskin Plus Reshaping Divine Serum mention that it really does provide an instant firming and tightening effect. For example, one reviewer says, “Super expensive and a very long ingredient list with lots of goodness. If you have an important event that you want immediate results with, this one is it! Would highly recommend and smells so, so good.”The only negative comments about this serum are concerning the price ($325 for just 1 ounce).

What are some alternatives to Darphin Skincare?

Overall, we like that Darphin Skincare products include both well-studied ingredients, like jojoba oil and chamomile extract, with unique ingredients, like Sea Emerald and Commiphora mukul. The one disadvantage with Darphin Skincare is the brand’s emphasis on fragrance. Remember: fragrance is not skin care! If you’re looking for a brand of fragrance free, anti-aging skin care products, we’d like to recommend Formulyst.

Bothered by signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness? Try Formulyst’s Advanced Repair Serum. This serum contains ingredients to keep your skin moisturized, while also providing skin with active ingredients such as a Peptide Complex, Stem Cell Complex, and Microbiome repair complex. The Advanced Repair Serum naturally comforts and calms the skin while helping to optimize skin hydration, increase firmness, and smooth the appearance of wrinkles.

The philosophy of Formulyst is long-term and effective skincare, rather than covering up any imperfections. The comprehensive line of products tackles everything from wrinkles to dark spots and dry skin. While some brands rely on unnecessary fillers and scents, Formulyst focuses on ingredients that help create results, such as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Many of the Formulyst’s products harness the power of plant and citrus extracts as well as gold-standard workhorses such as retinol. Read More

Darphin Hydraskin Rich Review

Darphin Hydraskin Rich is an all-day skin-hydrating cream with a nourishing texture that is ideal for dry skin. It is said to help wake up skin’s moisture mechanisms and defend skin’s critical moisture reservoir. Darphin Hydraskin Rich features HYDRA-STRUCTURE™ Technology, a high-performance hydrating complex of powerful ingredients from nature, such as Salicornia Herbacea. Salicornia Herbacea extract is derived from the succulent glasswort, which contains several beneficial components like betaine, amino acids, and minerals. The extract is said to strengthen the skin barrier, increase skin recovery, and provide deep moisturization.

Darphin Hydraskin Rich also contains several occlusive emollients, such as shea butter, mango seed butter, and hydrogenated vegetable oil. Occlusive emollients provide a physical barrier on the surface of skin that helps to seal in moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss, resulting in softer, more hydrated skin. Of note, Darphin Hydraskin Rich contains several volatile fragrance ingredients (alpha-isomethyl ionone, limonene, butylphenyl methylpropional, hexyl cinnamal, linalool, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, citronellol, citral, geraniol) that are known to cause allergic reactions and skin irritation.

Darphin Hydraskin Light Review

Darphin Hydraskin Light Gel Cream is an all-day skin-hydrating cream gel that is ideal for normal to combination skin. It is said to help wake up skin’s moisture mechanisms and defend skin’s critical moisture reservoir. Darphin Hydraskin Light Gel Cream features HYDRA-STRUCTURE™ Technology, a high-performance hydrating complex of powerful ingredients from nature, such as Salicornia Herbacea. Salicornia Herbacea extract is derived from the succulent glasswort, which contains several beneficial components like betaine, amino acids, and minerals. The extract is said to strengthen the skin barrier, increase skin recovery, and provide deep moisturization.

Darphin Hydraskin Light Gel Cream contains two highly effective humectants, panthenol (vitamin B5) and sodium hyaluronate. A humectant is a hygroscopic substance that has a molecular structure with several hydrophilic (water loving) groups. This structure allows humectants to attract and retain the moisture in the air nearby via absorption, drawing the water vapor into or beneath the surface. Humectants improve moisture retention and may also help other topical skin care ingredients to perform better. Of note, Darphin Hydraskin Light Gel Cream contains several volatile fragrance ingredients (alpha-isomethyl ionone, limonene, butylphenyl methylpropional, hexyl cinnamal, linalool, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, citronellol, citral, geraniol) that are known to cause allergic reactions and skin irritation.

Darphin Purifying Balm

Darphin Purifying Balm: Ingredient and Product Overview If you’re looking for products that may be able to treat an uneven complexion and provide your skin with a variety of natural ingredients, you may eventually come across Darphin Purifying Balm reviews that suggest this cream may be effective for restoring healthy skin. This product is manufactured by Darphin Paris, a French skin care company founded in 1958. Although Darphin Purifying Balm reviews may initially catch your curiosity, it’s important to note that consumers should never rely on reviews alone to make their purchasing decision of any product. Instead, speak to your dermatologist about this cream and conduct your own research to see if it can actually help you. This is a vital step in any skin care decision, as even a theoretically good product may not be right for you, if it doesn’t have ingredients that treat your specific problem. For example, if you’re looking to get rid of wrinkles or facial expression lines, Darphin Purifying Balm may not do much for you, because it’s not formulated with many skin tightening ingredients.

Darphin Purifying Balm Reviews

Though many reviews are honest, and are written by real users, keep in mind that Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm reviews may not be applicable to your situation. For example, few reviews actually have pictures of the individual’s skin and you may not be able to tell their age or the severity of their problem. Therefore, although the Darphin Purifying Balm review you’re reading may make wonderful claims about this product, it may have been written by an individual who misdiagnosed themselves, and the cream helped them simply by accident. Keep this in mind, and seek the help of a skin expert for solutions most likely to work in your case.

Darphin Stimulskin Plus

If you’re struggling with aging skin and the onset of wrinkles, and are looking for skin care solutions beyond the best drugstore creams, then the Darphin Stimulskin Plus line may be a viable option to consider. This anti aging product line is manufactured by the French company, Darphin, which was launched in the late 1950’s by Pierre Darphin. Over the years, the company grew to a world-wide distributor of specialty skin care products, and eventually developed the Darphin Stimulskin Plus brand to target the anti aging market. However, one of the problems pointed out in Darphin Stimulskin Plus reviews is the high cost of the company’s products. Many consumers seem to like the various creams and serums, but the products are quite pricey. Hence individuals with small skin care budgets must pay extra care to researching this product line, read Darphin Stimulskin Plus reviews, and learn all about the ingredients in these products, to ensure that this is the best alternative for their needs.

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Product Line

Darphin currently markets several items under the Stimulskin Plus label; including a Reshaping Divine Serum, a Divine Eye Cream, and Multi-Corrective Divine Cream for normal skin.

All of these are formulated around sea algae extracts. The manufacturer refers to this cornerstone formulation as Sea Emerald, though no such marine plant actually appears to exist. Therefore, this is likely a bit of marketing effort to differentiate the sea algae in Darphin Stimulskin Plus from algae in other anti aging products.

Further, speaking of marketing, it’s interesting to note that each product in this line has the word “divine” in its name. Unfortunately, we were unable to confirm whether this implies that the customer will look divine after using Darphin Stimulskin Plus products, or if the Darphin marketing team thought to include that word because they were eating divinity nougats during their brainstorming meeting.

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Ingredients

Although sea algae is the key ingredient in Darphin Stimulskin Plus products, it’s important to note that each item’s formulation is different. Therefore, great care must be taken to analyze the full ingredient list of each product, especially for individuals with sensitive skin.

  • Reshaping Divine Serum:  In addition to the sea algae, this Darphin serum contains ingredients like mulberry root extract, to brighten dark spots; grape fruit extract, to boost hydration; caffeine, to address dark undereye circles; yeast extract, to improve skin elasticity; and argireline (acetyl hexapeptide 8), which is thought to ease the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles.
  • Divine Eye Cream:  The Darphin Stimulskin Plus eye cream contains anti aging ingredients like murumuru butter, to boost skin elasticity and improve the skin’s shedding process; shea butter, to moisturize the skin; and mango butter, to bring additional hydration.
  • Multi-Corrective Divine Cream: This Darphin cream contains ingredients like butylene glycol, to condition the skin; tomato extract, with damage-repairing antioxidants; gentian and barley root extract, to reduce inflammation; rice bran extract, to repair skin damage; and caprlic triglyceride, to moisturize.

Please keep in mind that the constituent lists above are not comprehensive, and the full list of ingredients in each Darphin Stimulskin Plus product should be discussed with a dermatologist before use.

Where to Buy Darphin Stimulskin Plus

Consumers in the U.S. have many options for purchasing Darphin Stimulskin Plus products. The most direct source is to go through the company website, and complete the order online. However, due to the high cost of many such items, a purchase at a retail location may be a more shrewd option, as this provides an opportunity to speak to a skin care expert and even try some Darphin Stimulskin Plus samples.

Luckily, the company distributes many of its products through a multitude of spas all over the United States. In addition to the opportunity to speak to an experts and try a sample, buying at a spa can also provide savings on the shipping and handling charges.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that some spas will increase the price of Darphin Stimulskin Plus products they sell, to make a higher profit, which means it’s a good idea to shop around. Further, visiting a spa opens the consumer up to up-sells from staff who are eager to earn a commission.

Cost of Darphin Stimulskin Plus Products

Although the products in this skin care line have many beneficial ingredients, the cost of Darphin Stimulskin Plus creams and serums can be prohibitive for many individuals. For example, the price of the Divine Reshaping Serum is $310 for one ounce, Divine Eye Cream is priced at $136 for half an ounce, and the cost of Multi-Corrective Divine Cream for Normal Skin is $295 for just under two ounces. (And no, we didn’t forget any decimal points in these prices…These creams really do cost hundreds of dollars for a month’s supply.)

Darphin Stimulskin Plus Reviews

Most reviews for Darphin Stimulskin Plus products are quite positive, with many customers referencing improvements in their appearance. However, many reviewers highlight that although they liked the effects of these items, they don’t believe the improvements are worth the price.

Further, when reading Darphin Stimulskin Plus reviews, it’s vital to understand the setting in which the product was tried. For example, the consumer may eventually find excellent reviews for this product line on websites like Birchbox.com, where Darphin Multi Corrective Divine Cream had over 3,000 reviews at the time of this writing, and an overall rating of nearly 5 stars! Certainly, this is great feedback, right? But, the devil is in the details…

Birchbox is a discovery shopping service that sends monthly skin care product samples to its subscribers. Therefore, it’s helpful to filter reviews on this site based on whether someone left feedback after receiving a small sample, or if they actually reviewed after making a full purchase. Interestingly, at the time of this writing, the overwhelming number of reviews for the Multi Corrective Divine cream was left after a sample use – not after an actual purchase. Thus, it’s important to take such Darphin Stimulskin Plus reviews with a grain of salt, and to ask the pertinent question, “What would the ratings be for this product if all these reviewers actually spent the full retail price on these creams?”
