What Are The Key Ingredients in Augustinus Bader Skincare Products?
The key ingredient used in all Augustinus Bader skincare products is the brand’s patented TFC8 (Trigger Factor Complex) technology. The brand is vague about the ingredients that make up TFC8. They say TFC8 is “comprised of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesized molecules naturally found in the body.”
Fortunately, Terry Chan from Dupe Talk some digging and found the patent for TFC8, which says, “Trigger Factor Complex consists of water, ethanol, glycerol, vitamin E acetate, hydrogenated lecithin, cholesterol, L-arginine, L-phenylalanine, L-lysine, L-alanine-glutamine, L-tryptophane, L-tyrosine, L-valine, L-Prolin, L-taurine, ceramide NG, ceramide NP, oleic acid, palmitic acid, sodium ascorbate, phenoxyethanol, mustard seed oil, EDTA, oligopeptide.”
Basically, TFC8 consists of water, alcohol, glycerol (humectant), vitamins C and E, ceramides, fatty acids, and amino acids. With the exception of alcohol, these are all excellent ingredients for the skin. Glycerol and amino acids function as humectants, drawing water into the skin while also replenishing the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). Vitamins C and E are antioxidants that protect the skin from the damaging effects of free radicals. Lastly, ceramides and fatty acids help to replenish the skin’s barrier function.
Besides TFC8, the key ingredients used in Augustinus Bader skincare products include seed oils and butters, which function as emollients. Emollients help to keep the skin soft and smooth while also aiding in moisture retention.
Shea butter is one emollient that’s used in several of the brand’s moisturizers, including Augustinus Bader The Cream. Since shea butter melts at body temperature, it is able to coat the skin and form an occlusive film. Occlusive moisturizers

I purchased the Augustinus Bader “The Cream” and “Essence” ($$$) about one month ago from Sephora, sold on its innovative technology. I am African American with oily skin with some hyperpigmentation from old acne scars. I have large pores that still get clogged at 56 so I was desperate for products that could address those issues while moisturizing my mature skin. What I will say about the products is that my skin appears softer and smoother after short use. I don’t have many wrinkles (due to having oily skin) so I cannot attest to the products reducing lines and wrinkles. But I get occasional pimples from makeup use and these products have not eliminated these happenings. The large pores on and around my nose and chin still get clogged. For the price of these products, however, the results just do not add up. I need to find a line of products that deliver better results for far less money. To drop $200 for minimal results doesn’t seem to make sense. If you can recommend something else that truly works, I would be in your debt!
