The story behind Chantecaille
Chantecaille is a French cosmetic and skin care line made from pure botanicals, flowers, essential oils, and more. The company is family-owned and the brand is the namesake of the family’s surname. With more than 30 years of beauty experience, French born Sylvie Chantecaille launched the company in 1997. Chantecaille actually began as a niche French fragrance house with four original scents based on natural essential oils. Soon, Sylvie realized that her passion was for high quality skincare, natural products, Chinese medicine, and aromatherapy, so she began to expand Chantecaille. Today, Chantecaille is a well known name in the world of luxury botanical skin care and cosmetics. In this Chantecaille review, we’ll discuss a few of the best selling Chantecaille products, formulation details, Chantecaille reviews from real customers, and an alternative for you to consider.

Inside Chantecaille skin care
All of Chantecaille skin care products are created by combining the power of natural ingredients, like flowers and plant biotechnology, with the latest cutting edge technology. Therefore, the majority of Chantecaille product formulations are composed of natural ingredients, however, the brand is not 100% natural. Below we’ll take a closer look at the formulation details for each of the best selling Chantecaille products mentioned above.
Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer Bliss contains titanium dioxide as the active sunscreen ingredient. Titanium dioxide is considered to be a physical sunscreen (also called mineral sunscreen) because it protects your skin by using physical UV filters to block or deflect UV light. The formula contains high concentrations of several types of silicones, including cyclopentasiloxane, PEG-10 dimethicone, dimethicone, and phenyl trimethicone. Silicones impart a silky, smooth skin feel and also help to improve product spreadability. Ingredients like thyme and butterfly bush extract are claimed to be key ingredients in this moisturizer, however, they are present in very low concentrations (less than 1%). We know this by looking at the ingredient list (which is in order of descending concentrations). Both of these “key” ingredients are listed after the preservative phenoxyethanol, which cannot be used in concentrations more than 1%.
Chantecaille Bio Lifting Mask is formulated in a base of Rosa damascena flower water, which functions as a hydrating and skin soothing ingredient. In addition, Rosa damascena flower water provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The formulation also contains a very small amount of acetyl hexapeptide-8, also known as Argireline. This peptide works by limiting the ability of neurotransmitters to activate movement in your facial muscles, for example, when forming facial expressions such as smiling or frowning. By inhibiting the nerves that cause facial muscles to contract, subtle facial expressions are limited and wrinkles are subsequently reduced. However, keep in mind that there is only a tiny amount of this peptide present in the Chantecaille Bio Lifting Mask.
Chantecaille Rice and Geranium Foaming Cleanser uses naturally derived surfactants, such as myristic acid, stearic acid, and palmitic acid, to cleanse the skin. A surfactant molecule contains one end that is hydrophilic (attracted to water) and one end that is lipophilic (attracted to oil). This allows surfactants to attract and suspends oils, dirt, and other impurities that have accumulated on the skin and wash them away, leaving the skin clean. There are also essential oils such as rose, geranium, and orange blossom in the formula, which are said to “help lift the spirit”. While these essential oils certainly make the product smell pleasant, essential oils have the potential to cause skin irritation and sensitization in some individuals.
Where are Chantecaille skin care products sold?
Chantecaille skin care products are sold online through the company website and third party e-commerce sites. However, consumers can also find this brand through other distributers, like Nordstrom and Barneys New York. When buying these products from outlets like Amazon.com or eBay, it’s important to read Chantecaille vendor reviews as the relatively high product prices make this brand appealing for counterfeiters.
Is Chantecaille cruelty free?
Yes, Chantecaille is cruelty free and does not test their products or ingredients on animals. In addition, Chantecaille does not use third party testing to test on animals. Chantecaille products are sold in Hong Kong (where they do not test on animals). However, Chantecaille products are not sold in Mainland China (where they do test on animals). Chantecaille is PETA-certified cruelty free.
