As we age, collagen production takes a hit, resulting in thinner and more fragile skin. In fact, after the age of 20, collagen production decreases by about 1 percent each year.
That’s where collagen supplements come into the picture. Collagen supplements help to replenish these levels, potentially reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and promoting a firmer, plumper complexion — and these benefits are backed by research.
A 2019 publication in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology reviewed eleven studies with a total of 805 patients.
The conclusion of this systematic review states, “Preliminary results are promising for the short and long-term use of oral collagen supplements for wound healing and skin aging. Oral collagen supplements also increase skin elasticity, hydration, and dermal collagen density.”
In a clinical trial featured in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, collagen peptides demonstrated a 12% increase in nail growth rate and a notable 42% decrease in nail breakage rate.
Another study in 2022 indicated the potential effectiveness of collagen peptides in both preventing hair loss and promoting hair regrowth.

Vitamin C

A 2018 publication in the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine found that vitamin C supplementation has the ability to increase type I collagen synthesis.

Hyaluronic Acid

In a double-blinded, placebo-controlled study over a 12-week period, published in the journal Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, oral hyaluronic acid inhibits skin wrinkles and improves skin condition.
Inactive ingredients
There’s quite a few inactive ingredients in the Spoiled Child Collagen formula, including xylitol, lactic acid, malic acid, phosphoric acid, artificial flavors, preservatives, beta carotene, and sucralose.
The ingredient that we’re most concerned with is sucralose, an artificial sweetener that has been shown in studies to negatively impact the composition of the gut microbiome.
Moreover, some studies have proposed that artificial sweeteners, like sucralose, might interfere with the body’s ability to regulate calorie intake, potentially leading to increased cravings for sweet foods and overall calorie consumption.
