The Story Behind Poofy Organics
Poofy Organics is a small, family-run business that was founded in 2006 after family member Nella Gagliardi was diagnosed with breast cancer. After finding out about this diagnosis, the family was determined to stop using products with toxic chemicals. Unfortunately, the majority of commercial products are laden with harmful chemicals, additives, and synthetic fragrances. With no suitable alternatives to turn to, the family made it their mission to find the safest and most effective ingredients to create their own line of personal care products.
What are the Best Skin Care Products of 2024?
Fortunately, Nella survived breast cancer and is now involved in the Poofy Organics business along with her husband and her daughter. The company is proud that their products are made fresh, by hand, in small batches and that the products are safe for our world, children, pets, and expectant mothers. In this review, we’ll discuss the brand’s best selling products, key ingredients, Poofy Organics reviews from real customers, and more.
The Top 5 Poofy Organics Skin Care Products
Poofy Organics sells a wide variety of products, including bath and body products, cosmetics, essential oils and blends, facial care, hair care, and more. Let’s take a closer look at the best selling Poofy Organics skin care products.
Sunscreen
The Poofy Organics sunscreen is a non-nano zinc oxide mineral sunscreen that provides broad spectrum SPF 30 protection. In addition to zinc oxide, the formula contains several emollients such as organic jojoba oil, shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, and more. These emollients will help to keep your skin soft, smooth, and moisturized.
Browning Lotion
While it may seem like the Poofy Organics Browning Lotion is a self-tanner, it’s actually not. This blend of oils (including organic coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, camellia oil, cocoa butter, and more) is meant to be used in conjunction with the sun to deepen your tan.
Skin Hero Lotion
Poofy Organics Skin Hero Lotion, formerly called Ciao Eczema, is meant to provide relief to those dealing dry, irritated skin due to eczema. The formula contains a blend of botanical oils and extracts, such as organic apricot kernel oil, wheat germ oil, calendula oil, unrefined shea butter, vegetable glycerin, and more.
Healing Skin Oil
Poofy Organics teamed up with an Ayurvedic Doctor to come up with the formula for the Healing Skin Oil. While the formula contains a variety of botanical oils, one of the key ingredients is neem oil. Neem oil contains high concentrations of saturated fatty acids (palmitic and stearic acid), which promote wound healing and maintain the skin’s health. Due to the neem oil in the Poofy Organics Healing Skin Oil, the brand recommends this product for most skin ailments including the following: Hives and rashes, cuts, wounds, scrapes and abrasions, acne, shaving and waxing irritations, sensitive scalp, for additional sun protection, cold sores and blisters, infections and skin diseases, athlete’s foot and warts, as an insect repellent, for bug bites, pet skin irritations, as a plant insecticide, and more.
Flawless Face PM
This Poofy Organics night cream is said to help restore, revitalize, replenish, reverse, and rejuvenate your tired and aging skin. The highest concentration ingredients in this cream include organic aloe juice, apricot kernel oil, and shea butter. However, as you’ll learn in the next section, apricot kernel oil may not be the best choice of oil to prevent signs of aging.
What Are The Key Poofy Organics Skin Care Ingredients?
While Poofy Organics skin care products contain a variety of botanical oils and extracts, we did notice that some ingredients are used throughout the collection, including shea butter, apricot kernel oil, and jojoba oil.
You’ll find organic unrefined shea butter in almost all Poofy Organics skin care products.
Shea butter contains the following fatty acids: oleic acid (40 to 60%), stearic acid (20 to 50%), linoleic acid (3 to 11%), palmitic acid (2 to 9%), and arachidic acid (less than 1%). The rich supply of triglycerides and fatty acids in shea butter help to replenish the skin’s natural barrier function. Shea butter functions as an emollient that works to soften and soothe the skin. Since shea butter melts at body temperature, it is able to coat the skin and form an occlusive film. This film helps to prevent evaporation of the skin’s natural moisture and increases skin hydration by causing buildup of water in the stratum corneum (the uppermost layer of skin).
Apricot kernel oil is mostly composed of unsaturated fatty acids (93%), including oleic acid and linoleic acid. Oleic acid is an omega-9 monounsaturated fatty acid that functions as a penetration enhancer by disturbing the skin barrier. Linoleic acid is an omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA). Unfortunately, PUFAs are very unstable and prone to oxidation, which means they easily go rancid and can lead to the generation of free radicals that can damage our cells and lead to signs of aging. Even though Poofy Organics prides themselves on being a toxic-free skin care line, applying high-PUFA oils to your skin can actually be quite toxic.
Jojoba oil is another botanical oil that the brand uses in several of the Poofy Organics skin care products, for example, the Poofy Organics sunscreen. Jojoba oil is unique in that it mimics the skin’s natural sebum more closely than any other oil. According to the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology, jojoba oil can improve the skin’s barrier function and helps to prevent transepidermal water loss. It also has proven anti-inflammatory effects and can impart soothing effects upon application.

What Are Some Alternatives to Poofy Organics Skin Care?
Overall, we really appreciate that Poofy Organics skin care products are formulated to be toxin-free and organic. In an increasingly toxic world, it’s important to choose personal care products that won’t be harmful to your health. With that being said, we’d like to point out that synthetic ingredients are not inherently toxic. In fact, there are many synthetic ingredients that are not only non-toxic, but also offer many benefits to the skin. One example is peptides. Peptides are composed of chains of amino acids and they are naturally found within your skin. Scientists have found a way to create synthetic peptides that mimic those in your skin in order to provide powerful anti-aging benefits. One peptide serum we recommend is Formulyst’s Anti-Wrinkle Peptide Serum.
The Anti-Wrinkle Peptide Serum is a fragrance-free, anti-aging serum that combines six rejuvenating peptides into one formula. All of these peptides have a unique mechanism of action, and they work together to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The peptides are combined in a base of several potent hydrating ingredients, including glycerin, chondrus crispus extract, and sodium hyaluronate. Ultimately, Formulyst Anti-Wrinkle Peptide Serum can help to promote skin that looks and feels smoother, stronger, and more youthful.
