GloPRO is one of the best selling products created by BeautyBio, a skin care brand launched in 2011 by Jamie O’Banion. Jamie was inspired to create her own brand after working alongside her father in their family-owned cosmetic lab. How does the GloPro microneedling roller work?

Microneedling, also referred to as dermarolling or collagen induction therapy (CIT), has become a popular skin rejuvenation treatment to help reduce wrinkles, scarring, and discoloration while promoting a smoother and brighter skin tone and texture. Microneedling actually started in 1995 as an in-office procedure offered by dermatologists. It has gained traction in recent years due to the invention of at-home microneedling rollers, such as the GloPRO.

The microneedling process involves using small needles to create imperceptible micro-channels in the epidermis (the top layer of skin), which is a form of controlled injury. In response to this injury, the skin starts to produce new collagen and elastin. Collagen is responsible for keeping the skin strong and firm, while elastin provides elasticity and allows skin to return back to normal when moved. Microneedling also promotes the release of growth factors and the formation of new capillaries.

BeautyBio recommends using GloPro three times per week, but they confirm that it is safe to use GloPRO more often (even every day if desired). The brand recommends microneedling at night for 60 seconds. Using the GloPRO roller at night allows the skin time to regenerate in conjunction with the body’s natural reparative cycle. Plus, skin can be flushed and sensitive post-microneedling, so this allows the skin time to sleep it off.

Is microneedling safe at home?

Although microneedling is a fairly straightforward and simple procedure when performed by an experienced professional, complications can arise if the right pre and post-treatment steps are not taken. Since this treatment creates tiny holes within the surface of the skin, any products that you apply to your face both before and after treatment can much more readily penetrate the outermost layer of skin. While increased penetration can be beneficial, it also increases the risk of irritation and even infection. Any time you puncture the skin there is a risk of complications. In addition, there are specific guidelines that you should follow after microneedling, including avoiding sun exposure, adjusting your skincare routine, avoiding strenuous exercise, and avoiding harsh rubbing of the skin.
