Lavandula angustifolia, also known as lavender, is a flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to the Mediterranean. It is a strongly aromatic shrub with purple flowers. In cosmetics and skin care products, lavender flower extract is primarily used as a fragrance ingredient. Lavandula species have also been proven in literature to have the potential to treat bacterial infections commonly associated with resistance to conventional antimicrobial agents.
