C10-30 cholesterol/lanosterol esters is a mixture of cholesterol and fatty acid esters from lanolin, which have carbon chains with 10 to 30 carbons. Lanolin, also known as wool wax or wool grease, is a wax secreted by the sebaceous (oil) glands of wool-bearing animals. Cholesterol can be classified as a sterol, a type of lipid molecule. In cosmetics and personal care products, C10-30 cholesterol/lanosterol esters functions as a skin softening lipid emollient and moisturizer.

C10-30 cholesterol/lanosterol esters helps to keep the skin soft and smooth by replenishing the skin’s natural barrier function. A strong, intact barrier is important to keep moisture in and keep things like allergens, bacteria, and irritants out. This ingredient works to strengthen the outer structure of the skin and protect it from dehydration. In addition, C10-30 cholesterol/lanosterol esters functions to repair skin that has been stripped of its natural lipids by things like exfoliating or applying an aggressive anti-aging treatment. The fatty acid esters in this ingredient also provide excellent spreading, adhesion, and feel properties.
