Brand Background

Pistaché Skin Care was founded by Sima Mostafavi, a fourth generation pistachio grower. Due to her background, Sima knew firsthand the long-term benefits of pistachio oil on hair and skin. After scouring the market for beauty products formulated with this unique ingredient, she realized that there were no products that effectively harnessed the power of pistachio oil. Thus, Pistaché Skin Care was created. Pistaché Skin Care is a line of high quality, natural skin care products enriched with California pistachio oil, along with plenty of other beneficial ingredients such as precious oils, plant extracts, vitamins, and minerals.

What are the Best Skin Care Products of 2021?

Key formulation

While Pistaché Skin Care offers a wide variety of face and body products, there are several key ingredients used throughout the product line, such as pistachio oil, French soybean lecithin, glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, Persian silk tree bark extract, Moroccan rose oil, and lavender oil.

Pistachio oil is a pressed oil, extracted from the fruit of Pistacia vera, the pistachio nut. Pistachio oil is rich in vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin E. Vitamin E is a lipid soluble antioxidant that can protect the skin from free radicals, the unstable molecules that contribute to the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. In addition, vitamin E helps the skin retain moisture by strengthening the skin’s barrier function. Furthermore, pistachios are the only nuts that contain a significant amount of the carotenoids known as lutein and zeaxanthin. Research indicates that these carotenoids may help reduce UV ray damage to the skin. Pistachio oil can be found in all Pistaché Skin Care products.

French soybean lecithin helps soften and moisturize skin by working as a penetration enhancer that enables other ingredients to absorb deeper and minimize moisture loss. In addition, studies show that it is a potent antioxidant that helps repair free radical damage while soothing inflamed, irritated skin. French soybean lecithin is found in the Pistaché Skin Care Hydrating Moisturizer.

Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane. It has a small molecular weight, which means it can penetrate the skin very easily. Glycolic acid exfoliates the skin by targeting corneocytes (dead skin cells that make up the top layers of skin) in a process called corneocyte desquamation. By enhancing their breakdown and increasing the separation of skin cells, the rate of cell turnover is increased, leading to a smoother, brighter complexion. This process also helps to clear blackheads and reduce pigmentation. Glycolic acid is also classified as a humectant moisturizer based on its ability to increase the supply of hyaluronic acid in the extracellular matrix. Glycolic acid can be found in the Pistaché Skin Care Exfoliating Clay Cleanser.

Hyaluronic acid is a type of glycosaminoglycan (sugar molecule) that attracts moisture from the environment and draws that moisture into the skin’s upper layers. In fact, hyaluronic acid has the ability to attract and hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. By improving the skin’s moisture retention, hyaluronic acid provides a plumped up, bouncy complexion. Hyaluronic acid can be found in the Pistaché Skin Care Hydrating Serum, Exfoliating Clay Cleanser, and Whipped Pistachio Body Butter.

Albizia Julibrissin (silk tree) bark extract is a unique ingredient that can counteract the noxious effect of glycation. Glycation occurs when sugars enter the circulation and attach themselves to the amino groups of tissue proteins, such as collagen, rearranging their structure into advanced glycation end products (AGEs). As a result, AGEs cause once healthy collagen and elastin fibers to lose their elasticity, thereby becoming rigid, more brittle, and prone to breakage. Albizia Julibrissin bark extract can also neutralize or detoxify the products as they are leading up to glycation, resulting in a reparative effect on tired skin, in particular a loss of radiance and suppleness. Recent clinical studies have found that users experience the benefits of this ingredient in as little as 7 days. Albizia Julibrissin (silk tree) bark extract can be found in the Pistaché Skin Care Eye Serum.

Moroccan rose oil is a versatile ingredient that moisturizes and preps the skin for other products to be easily absorbed. In addition, rose oil has antiseptic and astringent properties, so it is an effective product to remove makeup, dirt, excess oil, and other impurities from the skin. Moroccan rose oil can be found in the Pistaché Skin Care Pistachio & Rose Divine Oil

Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil offers numerous benefits due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, thus, it has been called the “healer” ingredient. Lavender oil can soothe and detoxify the skin, as well as promote healthy hair follicles and scalp. Lavender oil can be found in the Pistaché Skin Care Pistachio & Lavender Divine Oil and Exfoliating Clay Cleanser.

Key products

Key products in the Pistaché Skin Care line include the Whipped Pistachio Body Butter and the Exfoliating Clay Cleanser.

The Whipped Pistachio Body Butter is a rich, moisturizing whipped body butter that absorbs into the skin quickly. It has the scent of nutty, lightly sweet pistachio biscotti. In addition to pistachio oil, the Whipped Pistachio Body Butter contains Arthrospira Platensis (spirulina) as a key ingredient. Spirulina is a type of blue green algae with a high concentration of antioxidant vitamins that can protect the skin from free radical damage. Spirulina is also known to increase the skin’s metabolism, restoring its vitality and maintaining a healthy glow. This ingredient is responsible for the butter’s natural light green coloring.

The Exfoliating Clay Cleanser is a clay-to-foam cleanser that gently exfoliates to brighten and rejuvenate the complexion. In addition to pistachio oil and glycolic acid, this product contains a type of clay called kaolin. Kaolin is an excellent ingredient for those with oily or acne-prone skin because it is very absorbent and effectively removes excess oil from the skin’s surface and pores while reducing shine.

Reviews: Pistaché Skin Care does not have customer reviews on their website. However, reviews on Amazon for the Pistaché Skin Care products are very positive, with most products receiving 4 or 5 star reviews.
