Drunk Elephant has a brand new addition to their skincare line, and it’s already a hit in the beauty community. Meet the Protini Polypeptide Cream. This anti-aging cream is designed to reveal firmer, moisturized, smooth skin. Is it destined to become a cult product? We’re exploring the brand behind this product, it’s formula and the results to see how it stacks up against other products from this line.

What are the Best Skin Care Products of 2019?

Behind the Brand

This is the 16th product to hit shelves from Drunk Elephant. Like all of the products from this line, the Protini Cream is designed to suit every skin type, even the most sensitive. Tiffany Masterson, the founder of Drunk Elephant, wanted to create a product line that eliminated all of the potential irritants, leaving behind only the best, most effective ingredients.

In order to do that, the brand has completely eliminated many of the most common irritants that are traditional found in skin care, including essential oils, fragrances, silicones, chemical UV filters, SLS and drying alcohols. Masterson found that these ‘suspicious six’ were responsible for a lot of the irritation that she experienced personally while trying to find effective skincare products for herself. Removing this ingredients has proven to be hugely successful in creating well-tolerated products that aren’t just potent, but gentle as well.

The Drunk Elephant Protini

This product is the second cream from the brand. The Lala Retro Whipped Cream was the first product that was specifically targeted for hydration. While this cream was a great option for all skin types, the brand wanted to create a product that was specifically designed for anti-aging. The Protini Polypeptide Cream filled that void by using multiple proteins and peptides, as well as antioxidants to help improve skin’s firmness and elasticity..

While this product is suited for all skin types, the ingredients are really geared towards mature skin. With a 9 signal peptide complex, pygmy water lily stem cell extract, and soybean folic acid ferment extract, this ‘shot of protein’ helps to revive dull skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier.

Inside the Ingredients List

This formula for this product centers around the idea of boosting the efficacy of the rest of your skincare products by adding a kick to your skincare regimen. In order to do so, they’ve packed the ingredients list with rich ingredients, which includ

9 Signal Peptide Complex
In order to help the skin self-renew, the polypeptide formula includes growth factors and amino acids that form proteins on the skin. What this does is plump up the skin by binding moisture. The results, both immediately and over time, should be an increase in firmness and bounce. While there are several products on the market that offer amino acids and peptides, it’s really the concentration of these ingredients that make this product so notable.

Pygmy Water Lily Stem Cell Extract
To increase radiance and produce that youthful ‘glow’, pygmy water lily extract serves as a soothing ingredient within this formula. As an source of antioxidants, this ingredient also helps to fight against free radicals while effectively moisturizing the surface of the skin.

Soybean Folic Acid Ferment Extract
Soybean Folic Acid extract is high in B vitamins, which helps to boost elasticity. Folic acid is also beneficial after sun exposure, making it a great night time product.

Alongside the benefits from folic acid itself, there are several benefits that are unique to fermented ingredients. Fermented ingredients are a key factor when it comes to fighting bad bacteria on our skin, while simultaneously promoting the good bacteria that our skin needs to flourish. And even better, fermentation increases the potency of regular ingredients, so you’re getting a stronger dosage of each active ingredient that has gone through the fermentation process.

Review Recap

Even though the product has only just launched, the Drunk Elephant Polypeptide Cream has already received quite a bit of good press. It already has over 200 reviews on Sephora and a rating of 4.6. Most reviewers loved the hydration that this cream was able to provide as well as the anti-aging benefits that they experienced with continuous use. The most common effects that were noted with this product were skin softening, and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

While there are very few negative reviews, the ones that are listed are worth taking note of. There are a few individuals who found that this product was not suitable for very dry skin, and a few reviewers with extremely sensitive skin reported breakouts and irritation.

With that said, this product is still an innovative and new area of skincare that hasn’t really been explored to this extent in the past. Have you had a chance to try this new product from Drunk Elephant? We’d love to hear you
