Clarins Extra Firming Foundation SPF 15 is a rich, creamy, oil-free foundation that combines skin-firming and anti-aging ingredients to promote a younger-looking complexion while also providing medium to full coverage. It is said to help to minimize imperfections, delivering a smooth, more radiant and even complexion. Clarins Extra Firming Foundation SPF 15 is available in five different shades so that you can choose the one that best matches your skin tone. The active sunscreen ingredient in this foundation is titanium dioxide (2.5%), a mineral sunscreen that works by blocking or deflecting UV light, rather than being absorbed by the skin. One disadvantage of this foundation is that it is only rated SPF 15, when SPF 30 or higher is recommended for adequate protection.
The rest of the Clarins Extra Firming Foundation SPF 15 formula mainly consists of different types of silicones and emollients to improve spreadability and impart a silky, smooth skin feel. The skin-firming and anti-aging ingredients, such as green tea leaf extract, plantain seed extract, and acacia senegal gum, are present in very low concentrations (less than 1%). We know this by looking at the ingredient list (which is in order of descending concentrations). All of these ingredients are listed after the preservative phenoxyethanol, which cannot be used in concentrations more than 1%. Clarins Extra Firming Foundation SPF 15 also contains several synthetic fragrance ingredients, such as alpha-isomethyl ionone, linalool, hexyl cinnamal, and limonene. These ingredients can cause sensitization and irritation.
