BellaBiotics Review: Are Probiotics The Key To Youthful Skin?

SKIN CARE REVIEWS

02.01.24DISCLAIMER

BellaBiotics is a probiotic supplement sold by Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, a board-certified naturopathic doctor, certified nutrition consultant, and bestselling author.

By targeting your skin and gut microbiomes from a cellular level, BellaBiotics is said to help restore your skin’s elasticity, smooth out wrinkles and skin sagging, boost your body’s collagen and elastin production, and even improve your digestive health — all from the inside out.

So can BellaBiotics really provide all of these benefits? Is BellaBiotics formulated with ingredients that are backed by science? If so, are they used in effective doses for optimal results?

We’ll answer these questions and more in our BellaBiotics review. Plus, we’ll share feedback from real customers to get their take on the results of this product.

What Are The BellaBiotics Ingredients?

In order to determine how well BellaBiotics performs, we’ll have to evaluate the key ingredients in this formula. Let’s get started.

Probiotics

Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that support the balance of the gut microbiome, aiding in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Furthermore, a balanced and diverse microbiome is essential for a strong immune system and clear, healthy skin.

There are two probiotic strains in the BellaBiotics formula: Lactobacillus paracasei and Lactococcus lactis. According to the brand, these probiotics were specifically chosen for their proven digestive support and skin-hydrating, -nourishing and -repairing properties.

The consumption of Lactobacillus paracasei has been linked to a number of health benefits, including improved digestion and enhanced immune system function.

Additionally, Lactobacillus paracasei has been shown to reduce inflammation and, therefore, may help to promote healthier skin. This is because inflammation contributes to aging skin by breaking down collagen and elastin fibers, which are essential for skin elasticity and firmness.

As for Lactococcus lactis, we found a couple of small studies that suggest this probiotic may benefit the skin.

For example, consuming heat-killed L. lactis helped maintain skin hydration and enhanced subjective skin elasticity in 30 middle-aged Japanese women, according to a 2012 publication in the Journal of Nutritional Science

Prebiotics

We’re happy to see that the prebiotic xylooligosaccharides (XOS) is included in the BellaBiotics formula. Prebiotics are non-digestible fibers that serve as “food” for the beneficial bacteria in the gut, thereby promoting digestive health.

Agatri Korean Mint

Agatri Korean Mint is a natural antioxidant that helps to repair UV-induced wrinkle formations, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and keep skin plump and moisturized.

According to a 2019 publication in the journal Preventive Nutrition and Food Science, treatment with Agatri Korean Mint reduced the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and promoted mRNA expression of antioxidant enzymes.

In simpler terms, Agatri Korean Mint helped reduce the amount of harmful substances ROS in the body and encouraged the production of antioxidant enzymes that protect cells from damage.

Dermaval

Another key ingredient in BellaBiotics is Dermaval, a proprietary blend of ingredients like pomegranate extract, coffeeberry, and camu camu.

We aren’t fans of proprietary blends. Why? Primarily because the total weight of the blend per serving is indicated, but never the proportions of each ingredient. Essentially, you could be wasting your money on a formula that does not have adequate quantities of the active ingredients.

This seems to be the case for Dermaval, since the total dose of this blend is only 50 mg, translating to an average ingredient dosage of just 5 mg.

To give you an idea of how low this is, take a look at this Camu Camu powder that contains 2,500 mg per serving — 500 times more than the estimated amount used in the BellaBiotics formula!

Vitamin A

Vitamin A (as retinyl palmitate) is included in the BellaBiotics formula because it is known to

stimulate the production of new skin cells and enhance collagen production in the body.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D benefits the skin by promoting skin cell growth, repair, and metabolism. It also helps in regulating the skin’s immune system and reducing inflammation, contributing to overall skin health.

Vitamin E

We’re happy to see vitamin E in the BellaBiotics formula because this nutrient is essential for skin health and function, requiring regular replenishment as it gets depleted by exposure to UV light and sunlight.

What Are The Benefits of BellaBiotics?

After reviewing the ingredients in the BellaBiotics formula, we believe there are two main benefits of this supplement:

Balanced Microbiome

The purpose of the pre- and probiotics in BellaBiotics is to help maintain the balance of the gut microbiome by preventing the overgrowth of “bad” bacteria. A balanced gut microbiome is crucial for maintaining overall health, supporting digestion, immune function, healthy skin, and even mental well-being.

Healthier Skin

There are many nutrients included in the BellaBiotics formula that are necessary for healthy skin, including vitamins A, D, and E. The probiotics in the formula may also contribute to healthier skin, but that benefit has only been supported by a limited number of small studies.

What Are The Side Effects of BellaBiotics?

Like any dietary supplement, there is a possibility of experiencing side effects.

The side effects that are typically associated with pre- and probiotic supplements include stomach upset, gas, diarrhea, or bloating.

Always consult with your healthcare provider before incorporating any supplements into your routine to ensure they align with your individual health needs and medical conditions.

According to the brand’s website, you just have to take one BellaBiotics capsule per day with food.

BellaBiotics Reviews

However, there are a handful of negative BellaBiotics reviews, which are mostly from customers who were disappointed that they didn’t see the results they were hoping for after taking this product.

For example, one review says, “I’ve been taking Bella Biotics for a month now. I haven’t noticed any improvement in my gut.”
